No you wouldn't have, because the guy can have it done for $30, not $65!Antorcha wrote:You already wasted time posting here and returning to read replies. I'da had that shit done in 30-45 min and sent him on his way. $65 (/hour)minimum one hour charge for anything.

Re: making a cheap pseudo-gas lens using std parts
Nice work man. Where'd ya get that Stainless screen? And the rings? I was trying out a few similar ideas and couldn't find any, but I didn't scour the earth very hard either. Looks like a great cheap way out of buying a bunch of new parts. formed (4) rings from some 0.035" 316L tig rod I had l...

If he says he can get it done for $30, does that mean he expects you to beat that bid with a lower price to get his business?? He's crazy. Tell him to take a hike and that you don't do shoddy work. No less than $100.

Re: making a cheap pseudo-gas lens using std parts
I doubt there would be much of a difference. I simply copied what a standard gas lens has, which is a few mesh screens and some rings to keep everything in place (usually). Only difference is this was cheaper. :) I'll clean up some pieces of 304 SS tubing and see what I can find. On mild steel it do...

making a cheap pseudo-gas lens using std parts
A friend of mine and I were talking tig welding and he mentioned that if only there was a #10 cup that would work with a non-large gas-lens collet body, but rather standard #9/20 parts including teflon gasket insulator. Well, I had done this previously with my 24-series water cooled torch: I added s...

Better act fast. I was told pricing just went up on nearly everything including what they sell on Ebay. That is why I have been buying anything and everything I need now. I knew inflation was just around the corner. That's part of the reason I bought mine when I did. Now if they could figure out wh...

Re: HTP Invertig 221 with Quik-Disconnect fittings!
Those are pretty Cool, Now I have new accessories I will have to look at getting. Always worried about thread wear on the argon fittings. Best part is, Paul @ HTP carries them in stock, and it's cheap. I wanna say it was about ~$25 for everything to retro-fit the machine/cooler and to convert one w...

HTP Invertig 221 with Quik-Disconnect fittings!
As always, first and foremost, Paul P. at HTP America is to thank for hooking me up with all the cool stuff. Seeing as how he knows I have several torches, a while back he sold me some fittings that I am just barely getting to install. Quik-disconnect's on both water lines, AND on the argon hose, ma...

I dont see the need for such an animal, unless you're constantly melting alumina/pyrex cups. A CK jumbo 1-1/8" pyrex kit can be had for $100 complete. Even cheaper, a large 1" gas lens for a 9 or 17 style is around $7, and you can get five #15 cups for around $8. :) http://i169.photobucket...

Sure, point taken. For experienced welders, that is. . For newbies, such as myself, the less [distracting] variables there are, the better overall. Why fight things you dont have to, especially when trying to diagnose problems?
