Ah ok, I think I know what you're talking about. Seen that one on Thermal Arc/Longevity TIG welders I think.

Re: Finger Control or Foot Control?

Oscar, That's why I'd like the review... I work often in difficult positions... Sometimes welding in the mirror while I stand on my head. The pedal is often impractical, so I use a Weldcraft rotary remote in these cases. It works, but I HATE it. A good review on an alternative might help me convinc...

Buy American, they last, are backed by people who will keep them working. You'll never regret owning a Miller or Lincoln. If you absolutely can't spend much money, go to Craigs list or other sources and buy used. tell that to the guy on welding web forum who bought a used Miller Dynasty 200DX, only...

Re: Finger Control or Foot Control?

Just received my hand amperage controls from HTP. Yes, controls as in plural---I ordered the sliding control, as well as a rotary one, both are made by CK worldwide. More fun toys. :) I hope you'll post up a comparison. I'm of the opinion that the slider is easier to manipulate while welding, but t...

Re: Differences in air cooled tig torches

Thanks John. Might have to look into those 9 series torches more... Most of what I'm doing will be in the 50-60 AMP range. Enjoy your weekend, Bill there is also such a beast as an air-cooled 24 series. Uses different consumables, but it is even smaller than a 9 series and a tad ligher than the 9 s...

Re: New to Tig Welding

First welcome to the forum! Not knowing your exact budget and how thick your Alum will be and also not knowing how much welding you would actually be doing I would recommend either a Dynasty of Syncrowave. Both have pros and cons but either would be a excellent choice for what you want to do. You w...

Re: New to Tig Welding

Back in the day...25 years ago I used heli-arc for chromoly. I would like to weld stainless, carbon steel, aluminum, and eventually titanium. I was a good gas welder on exhaust systems. For aluminum you need lots of amperage. It steps up the machine class a few notches. What thickness aluminum is n...

Re: TIG welding practice on mild steel, porosity problem

Is the point of a gas lens to improve coverage with less flow, or just reduce turbulence? Ideally what should my flow rate be to provide adequate shielding? Since I'm just practicing I didn't want to have it cranked and wasting gas, so I set it at 10 CFH as a starting point. As mentioned above I di...

Re: Is it ok to run a water cooled torch air cooled?

You need to ask your professor at school. I'm sure they're available to answer these questions. Each system is different. My water cooler only needs distilled water. Some require special coolant mixtures. You need to inquire about your specific cooler. We can only answer general questions to your in...

Re: TIG welding practice on mild steel, porosity problem

What is likely happening is that there is a leak in the argon flow path. As the argon flows, it "siphons" air from the atmosphere into the tubing/fittings, thus delivering oxygen to the tungsten/weld pool. Just feeling if there is gas coming out of the torch doesn't tell you that it is pur...

Re: Is it ok to run a water cooled torch air cooled?

no such animal as a water-cooled torch turned air-cooled. The argon flows through a separate line in a water-cooled torch, as opposed to an air-cooled torch where the argon flows inside of the power line that has the copper wire. Two distinct things.

Hello, do you know how these headers welded that welds are so golden? http://jdlautodesign.net/shop/evo-4-9-forward-facing/ Is it somekind specific material? Thank you! Those are 304 stainless steel. The golden straw color is what results when the weld bead cools sufficiently before the argon cover...

bigger vs smaller (size and amperage). Different parts--not interchangeable. Cable is interchangeable though.

Re: I am trying to swap torches 17 to 26

Finding such an adapter would prove useless as already mentioned. Your power cable would cook long before you would damage a 26 torch. That said, you can get fittings from River Weld and make your own adapter. The 26 torch uses a 7/8"-14 RH thread for the nut. You'd have to buy the nut and nipp...

even then, you won't know if the gas solenoid is functioning properly. Very important if you care at all about pre/post flow settings.

I was welding in the 250-300 amp range on a wc torch (HFAC), and accidentally pinched the supply water line under the wheel of my creeper. In less than 30 seconds, I had this on the return/power line: GEDC1031.JPG And a shop full of smoke. Note the size of the power wire, on a torch rated for 250A ...

I did it accidentally , and I freaked out when I realized it! Mainly because my equipment is brand new. I was using 60A, rule of 33, about 50-70% pedal for about 10 min, but only about 10% duty cycle per 30 seconds. Luckily my power lead does not appear to have been damaged because the water cooler ...

Re: 2% lanthanated tungsten and aluminum

I noticed that your tungsten is heat-discolored. It is too hot when the argon stops flowing on the post-flow. If the settings you are using you "must use", then you need to up your post flow time. Otherwise, you could try playing around with the settings to reduce the heat input into the t...

I like this smoker. Kinda like a cross between a vertical smoker and a horizontal/offset smoker. Here in Texas we do a lot of smoking! Meat, that is! I prefer brisket, myself. :)
