Re: Pedal Info

Not 100% positive, but I think my son mentioned that SSC makes the better of the two pedals for Everlast.

Re: Oxy Gasoline cutting.

Brian, You are correct on all points and for the life of me I coudn't think of the word "acetone" while I was typing that. My Appologies. You would think with it being part of the word acetylene it would have come to me. Actually the smell of the carbide used while producing it was all I c...

Re: Oxy Gasoline cutting.

One concern I have would be pressure regulation on the gasoline, a tank of acetylene always has positive pressure. There would have to be something in the system to atomize the gasoline and pressure to keep it in a vapor state.. I guess we do it with propane all the time. Propane's flash point is qu...

Re: Spray-arc

There's an interesting site called weldreality.com I believe on the subject of welding gases for Mig. I can't speak to subject of spray transfer first hand. I just bought my first Mig welder this year and have a total of about 24" of experience. I can add a little bit to the conversation about ...

Re: First tig welds done , now the questions . DC steel

Ryan, I too have been having an issue with my tungsten melting. It looked lke in the picture of your welder that it was a generater type machine, correct? If so are you scratch starting your welds? I did see a trigger on your torch but I'm assuming no High frequency. I'm using an old transformer wel...

Re: How NOT to...

Steve, It looks like I didn't leave any identifying marks on that. No, just kidding, not mine. But we did have an older fellow that was in the shop when I first started that would have been proud of that weld. He was way bad and didn't care to get better. Worst part is, that some trailers are coming...

Re: Cap/Cover passes for the blind: part deuce

I've never welded much with flux core so I don't know if this trick will work for it, but I'm color blind and I have a very hard time seeing the puddle when I'm welding carbon steel. It also makes it hard to see the line that seperates the edge of the parent metal from the weld. I found that when I'...

Re: Welding hoods

I have over the years had flip front 2X4 and even a flip front made out a peice of fiber that fit into a burning shield headgear to get into tight places. I now use a couple different auto darkening hoods, one from HF that works just fine and one from Jackson, and still have the others if I want to ...

Re: pepper flakes

Dane, Not sure about all the bells and whistles like AC balance and all that since my welder is a vintage early 80's Miller Dialarc HF transformer welder. That's about 20 to 30 years newer than the welders I use at work. They are from the late 50's and still going strong. I thinking by 2020 I might ...

Re: pepper flakes

Dane, I can't say with complete certainty that your machine has no faults, but I don't think it's at fault here if it welds in all other regards just fine. I'm no expert on the functions of an inverter welder by no means, but I'm sure there are some people on here who are. If your welder is also a s...

Re: What are you guys paying for gasses in your area?

FF, In the past year I also bought 2 new 80 cf Argon and AR/CO2 tanks @ $1896 ea. I usually bump my Argon tank off a 330 cf tank but I don't have a mixer for the 75/25 so I had to pay $29 to have it filled. I think they said the straight Argon in the 80 cf tank was the same price, $29. My 330 cf Arg...

Re: What are you guys paying for gasses in your area?

I just paid $55 dollars for refill on a 330 cf Argon tank and I haven't bought Acy and O2 for quite a while so I have no clue as to their current prices.

Re: pepper flakes

Dane, I just thought of something else after I posted. There is no way of keeping moiture from entering your system when your not welding, just physics. But if you haven't already, and you have this setting available on your welder, set your preflow timer up a little and let some gas flow through th...

Re: pepper flakes

Dane, Is this happening with aluminum from different sources? (i.e. different sheet or angle or tubing, whatever) My thought was mabe something in the alloy. As others have said you can and will get argon that's not up to industry standards. This happens mostly because when a cylinder of argon is fi...

Re: beveling qustion

You can definitely use a router with a wood bit as long as it's carbide tipped. I've seen guys at work do it all the time. Safety glasses and a full face shield would be advisable for sure. And you better have a broom handy, makes quite a mess in a short period of time. We had some guys come in and ...
