Re: Hi from Deek in UK

Deek, We look forward to learning from your experiences and I'm sure you'll find yourself learning from others here. You never know what might show up in a thread on this forum. WT&T doesn't quite describe what we have developed here, we have a very wide variety of knowledge here from many backg...

Thanks Steve, that's what I was referring to. I got busy and didn't get the time to respond myself, but you nailed my sediments exactly.

Re: Fill for welding tungsten

I don't really have anything to add as far as the material but, if Inconel can't take the heat, wouldn't the filler metal melt if it was brazed?

Re: Contaminant porosity during TIG welding

Sometimes a full penetration weld on thin material will draw impurities in from the back side of the puddle. On flat sheets you can limit this with a backing plate.

Metal Fab, Here's a link to a post where I did the testing of the different choices you will have. I've used most every one of them and have had little ill effects. Others tell of horror stories from using other than low conductivity coolant but my experience tells me different. It's not a huge inve...

dkmc,
Does your welder stick weld on all three polarity settings? Clean the contacts on your polarity selector. Make sure all the taps on the transformer are in good condition. All connections tight. Sounds like you may only be getting one or your DC legs while set to AC.

Flowmeter Preset PSI; 30 PSI vs 80 PSI

Any regulator that's made to be used in CO2 service needs to set at higher than 60 psi because that is the maximum pressure at which it can form dry ice. Above this pressure it will be a mixture of liquid and gaseous CO2. Below that it will be a mixture of dry ice and gas and will clog the flow mete...

Re: Pepper In Aluminum Tig Welds ???

Almost all filler rod have additives that act as fluxing agents to draw impurities to the surface, and this is a good thing, keeps them from being trapped in the weld puddle. A lot of this is just that. When you achieve a full penetration weld without shielding gas on the back side you can draw oxid...

Re: Stainless Flat stock grid

oman, I'm not sure if you know what I mean by bridge welding, but you would only put a weld from the one side of the slot to the other, crossing the intersecting flat strap. This weld only needs to be 3/4" long and wouldn't be able to distort the metal because it would try to shrink against the...

Re: Stainless Flat stock grid

oman, Are the straps one piece with slots cut in them to interlock, ( I___II___II___II___II___II___I) or are they all individual pieces? If they're not slotted, I'd suggest that they be slotted. A couple things come to mind when I think about a bunch of small parts welded together in front of a turb...

Billy, Both are techniques that are good to know, don't stop practicing walking the cup, just start practicing freehand. There are many places and situations where you'll need to know how to freehand. Walking the cup works great where you have room to move, but isn't much use to you in tight places....

Welder bias in the oil field

Watch videos from fieldres on YouTube, he shows how to use the independent amperage and voltage adjustments on a SA-200 Lincoln. That alone would lead me to pick red over blue for pipe welding with 6010.

I switched to the 5.11 tactical "Company CST 2.0" boot a few years ago and love them. They have the composite toe and fiberglass shank. Never cared for slip on boots until I tried these. No laces to melt and can be kicked right off if slag finds it's way in the top trough a pant leg. Super...

Aaron, First off welcome to the forum. I have the Dialarc also and I bought my son the 250EX and we like it a lot. I can't speak to the 325 but I will agree that the Dialarc is a pain to move and it loves the electric compared to the Everlast. I haven't seen many reviews on the 325, but I haven't an...

angusbass, I often run up to 200' of extension cord on an old transformer welder. Granted it's #2 wire and needs a crane to carry it around. If you make up a cord just make sure the wire gauge is rated for the amps you need at the length you're making it. There are charts all over the internet to te...

Mick, There's probably as many answers to that question as there are members here. You could Tig weld steel in nothing more than a helmet ( not a great mental picture). Stick overhead with a 6010 laying in a muddy ditch and you'll want a leather jacket and heavy gloves. The sparks and your pain thre...

RJ, I would try to find a MIC-4 if possible, it opens up more options when it comes to pedals and torch mounted controls. That being said, I think you'll have to go the RFC23A route if you can't find a MIC-4, they're usually very hard to find and very expensive when you do. They work well, just heav...

Re: 2% Lanthanated tip problem?

Kriky, When I have had my tungsten "cactus" as you say, I almost always found it to be too much amperage for the size or grind on the tungsten. If you only have 3/32 then make a shorter steep grind with a flattened tip or move up to 1/8 if you have it. You can always sharpen a larger tungs...
