Re: Anybody tried and arc pig??

I actually went so far as to look up his welder's manual to see if he actually needed to use an Arc Pig and when I got back the sheizen had already hit the fan. It seems his machine is an AC/DC- CC/CV machine without HF and it might be beneficial to him if the price was right. Oh well, I don't think...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

OzFlo, Your welds look good for only having your welder just over a week. I would never recommend this for a critical weld but I do suggest it for practice. Slowly cut your gas back until your welds start to deteriorate, then set it just above there. This does a couple things, it shows you what it l...

Re: Two grounds on the same work piece.

Our old maintenance shop had a common ground for 6 welders and about 10 different tables so I wouldn't think this should be a problem. These were transformer based machines not inverters, I don't know enough about an inverter's circuitry to say if it's safe with them. I use the building as my ground...

Re: Purging

I've never welded with water and a purge. I have welded a fuel tank full of diesel fuel and welded a water line with water running out of a crack. The water line turned out fine, but the fuel tank built up pressure and the cap hit the ceiling right before hitting me on top of the head. I finished it...

The sightings I was referring to would have been around 2002-2003 time frame, at least when I heard about them. As far as the thread being off course, I believe some Texan was driving that bus when he mentioned beer. In typical Texas fashion he says the weather's not too bad, meaning it never goes o...

I was at Commanche Peak power plant in Glen Rose once and they suggested I go to Stepenville to get a tire fixed, I told them I had heard of the UFO sighting there on late night radio and I had no intention of returning to my own planet just yet and asked if there was anywhere else. They didn't find...

Re: TIG practice goes on...

Same here, almost 35 years, still dipping and grinding. Good news is eventually your need to have a perfect grind on the tungsten goes away. Bad news is as you age and your eyesight starts to fail, you're back to dipping often again, so don't think you can get rid of that grinder anytime soon. Try a...

Re: How to repair a Tig welding hot crack.

Tom, Welcome to the forum. The question I would have first is what grade of stainless are we working with here, and in what configuration. Usually when you're getting hot cracking, more welding just makes it worse. You need to give us more specifics before you keep trying to "weld it out"....

Re: Lincoln Tombstone Buzzbox Cart Ideas

tschmitt, You can definitely make a cart with an A/C only welder. My suggestion would be to weld all the welds in the flat position. This will involve moving the part quite often but it shouldn't be heavy or that awkward to do. Most folks don't recommend using 6013 rods, but this would be a perfect ...

Re: Purging

Ben, Have these tanks had anything in them prior to this? If these tanks have been used in flammable service I would recommend getting an explosive meter. If these are new tanks just being built, then just do the math to get close. You're going to need quite a bit of gas to purge a 1000 liter tank s...

Re: Tig welder releases argon before I depress the foot peda

Nathan, I would think if the flow stops when the welder is shut off, then Steve is right, it's probably not a stuck solenoid. It would seem that the solenoid is getting power from somewhere keeping it open. First thing to do is make sure it's set to local control and if it still does it that changes...

Polobbie, Welcome to the forum. I have a little experience in running more than one welder from one cooler. In addition to that I have a system that runs two torches from the same welder. There is a chance of forgetting to change lines to the welder you're using. What you can do is just let the wate...

Re: Tig welder releases argon before I depress the foot peda

Nathan, I believe your machine has a solenoid mounted with 2 screws though the panel into the back side of the solenoid and 2 90* 5/8-18 x 1/4 NPT elbows. Most solenoid valve can be torn down and cleaned, replace any O-rings and your back in business. Use a small amount of silicone based grease when...

I don't know much about mounting plows so I can't comment on that, but when my friend had me put a tube grille and running lights on his F550, all the stuff was made for an Excursion. All the stuff made for the F250 through F450 models were different, so maybe the frame is a different width. That's ...

Tannet. You might want to look at page 13 of the manual like I did and you'll see that your duty cycle is 60% @ 90A and 20% @ 150. I didn't take the time to do the actual math but I think if you do, you'll find my estimation for 120 amps is not far off. But hey, I usually don't know what I'm talking...

Re: Stick welding machine limits.

Tannet, Welcome to the forum. You should be able to weld up to the duty cycle of your machine. If the duty cycle is 20% @ 150 amps, it means you can weld 2 minutes out of every 10 at that amperage. Remember that every pass while welding is putting heat into the part so multi-pass welds don't necessa...

Quite familiar with that area, delivered to Clariton Works and Guardian Glass for years. Used to get into El Ramo power plant on occasion. Haven't been down that way for awhile though. Nice to have you aboard.
