I have am old cast iron chair that is used as a garden ornament. One of the legs had broken off and needs welded. Besides the typical cleaning and beveling what else needs done and what rod would be used?

Re: Question On Mixing Helium With Argon!

Say you have your argon at 20 CFH......would setting your helium at 5 CFH give you 25%?

Re: Question On Mixing Helium With Argon!

I take it that a bottle used for argon can be filled with helium with no problem?

Question On Mixing Helium With Argon!

When using helium with argon for tig welding you need a Y valve with adjustment knobs. It is my understanding that you use roughly 75% argon and 25% helium. In order to get the proper balance do you use 2 gauges and set CFH accordingly to get the proper mix?

I don't understand what you are talking about, sorry.

Do you start at the tight inside of the corner and work out or so you start away from the corner and work in.......hope that is better.

Re: Tig Welding Aluminum Inside Corner?

This is what I was working on. I do the occasional welding that is not at home I scored this bottle for $30 and decided to build this carrier. The carrier is aluminum and the guard for the gauges is stainless. The part that I had trouble with was at the base where the one inch tube meets. http://i51...

Tig Welding Aluminum Inside Corner?

Hope I explain this right. I am trying to figure out how to tig weld aluminum on an inside corner.......like welding inside the corner of a box. I just did this on a home project and it did not go so well. The welding went fine on other parts of the project so it comes down to me. Is there a certain...

I doubt surge wastes as much as the fixed 15 sec. postflow on some of the new machines. At least the surge is fixable.

One of the reasons I like this site is the straight forwardness. Too many other sites have drama no need for it here.

When tig welding aluminum....i sometimes get pepper on the welds. As long as you can wire brush the pepper off are the welds compromised?

Size Of Weldment On Aluminum?

A few weeks ago I was welding on 1/4" aluminum. The parts were approximately 6 ft. long. Using my HTP Invertig I was using 220 amps with 3/32 tungsten (all i had). Fast forward to last night I was experimenting with 1/4" pieces 2" x 6" welding the 6" sides together. I was ab...

Re: Am I On To Something Here ???

1/4" butt joint with no gap and no bevel? Just curious as to why is all. I've seen the black deposit when a student doesn't wait for a clearly defined puddle and tries to add filler too early. Dave ......had this been a job for a customer I would have done the preparations you described above....

Re: Let's see your TIG rod storage setup pics

Rich, I have no doubt you'll impress. My joke was poking fun at myself for being so (apparently) disorganized. I'm not so disorganized as it appears, because I'm working at least three projects at a time and still know where all my tools are, but to the untrained eye, I look like chaos personified....

Re: Let's see your TIG rod storage setup pics

I made these at a cost of about 2 to 3 dollars a piece. I cut my rods down to 18 inches.......i don't like welding with the long rods. I had a guy at work cut the holder out using a CBC machine......i then bent it up on the company brake. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f354/rahtreelimbs/Mobile%20...
