Re: AHP Everlast customer lack of support
Everlast is not sold in Home Depot any more their contract was terminated. Its not unheard of for someone to have a bad experience with Everlast. AHP is pretty good for support but again not top notch but you get what you pay for as well, need to keep that in mind when buying a machine. Companies l...

Re: What material for sub-bench ontop of wood bench?
Don't go with hot dip galvanize. Toxic fumes, hard to get good grounds on, and it likes to "pop" if it gets too hot. I have a cheap $90 hobby bench I weld on at home that has a wooden top. I just have 12" x 48" x0.25" thick plate of hot rolled steel sitting on top and no iss...

Re: AR/CO2 CFH question
I'm new to this MIG thing, too. Why wouldn't you just swap to a flowmeter and know all the time what's happening? I'd wager that 90% of all people who weld for a hobby, couldn't weld the difference of 5CFH of any shielding gas. In fact, I bet many full time welders can't tell the difference either ...

Re: welding inside finished building
Last time I did 7018 inside an office building, we had a make-shift fume extractor made up of some shop fans and HVAC ducting that led roughly 50ft to the bay doors at the back of the warehouse. Worked really well and was relatively low cost. Can't remember how many rods I burned through but this wa...

Re: Proper way of telling a customer no half-way through a j
Damn man, I'm happy for you that you got this resolved. He brought cops??!! Not cool... Yeah. Was surprised as hell at that. I’d be hard pressed to think your co worker who referred you didn’t know what he was setting you up for. That's been weighing on my mind, but I don't quite think so. ...

It did finally after some trouble at the bank. Not sure what the issue was, but I was eventually handed cash so I don't care.
Edit: Plus I at least have all the off cuts to practice on. He didn't want to take that stuff. I wont say no to 100lbs of free aluminum.

Best Welds Brand by chance? I've had the same issue with those ones. Always 3 pieces length wise.

Re: Proper way of telling a customer no half-way through a j
Interesting morning to say the least. Metal is gone, I at least got a check that covers my costs minus one or two hours though still under what I was asking. This guy has clearly done stuff like this to other people. Even though I am running under an LLC to protect myself, he showed up with two cops...

I've been having this issue as well, and purging the cookies and cached data only partially fixed it. I just now manually logged into the site as https ://forum.weldingtipsandtricks.com/ and it seems to be working, but the security warnings are complaining about non-secure elements on the pages, pr...

Re: Proper way of telling a customer no half-way through a j
Over the axle or towing? My suspension was almost bottomed out and I've got F250 leafs on my F150. Didn't weld anything so no need to cut it all apart. Last thing I was gunna do was pay for the gas, filler, and angry wall pixies out of pocket. Only stuff I welded was some off cuts to figure this ano...

With his record, I'm not sure 50% down is enough, have him arrange a flatbed for the pickup I told him he needs a flat bed, but he doesn't agree. He's thinks he can convince someone else with a pick-up to come haul it all away Saturday morning and give me the payment prior to getting the metal. Wil...

Re: Proper way of telling a customer no half-way through a j
I've got a contract in writing so I'm at least covered there. I don't have anything about storage fees in the original deal so I'll look into legalities of having those without it being in a contract. Never had this issue before so storage fees have never crossed my mind. Just found out some things ...

Proper way of telling a customer no half-way through a job?
So I'm currently running into this issue and not sure if I'm handelling the situation wrong (yay self doubt), or correct, or if anyone has any suggestions of what to do different. Backstory. A co-worker asked me if I'm able to weld aluminum because his other job needs some stuff welded and their sid...

Apples' Safari says "this is an unsecured site". Chrome as well, though that just means the difference between http:// and https://. Not sure if this used to be https or not. Oddly, I was autologged in on incognito mode on the PC after having used the phone earlier. Think I at least found...

Re: Unable to stay logged in?
I still have not figured anything out. On Chrome and IE (yuck) I still can't even stay in on the PC. Incognito mode on the phone in Chrome is the only way I've found but only works for a few minutes every 24h. It's a conspiracy I say! The Reptilians are behind it all!

Re: Welding Cubes/Sealed Containers
People usually hide a vent hole in on of the sides you don't see in the photo. Though if you want it completely sealed, leave a spot at the very end and weld that spot shut after the entire thing has had enough time to cool, or fill in and sand flat a vent hole that was elsewhere.

That's an awesome idea! Surprised my area doesn't do stuff like that. Copper and Aluminum theft is a big thing here too, has been for years, but nothing is ever done to prevent it. Re: Lead welding using TIG
A small gas torch would be best. Something similar to yhe Midget torch or Smith's Micro Torch. TIG welding the lead will be too much of a headache, though it can be done. DC or AC will work but it will be extremely dirty and will melt to nothing in the blink of an eye.

Whoo trade war!
As long as it's not a high-use weight bearing item, you should be able to get away with it. I have some old motorcycle parts that were only autogenous welded 6061 and they've bent full 180* without ever breaking and survived multiple crashes.

Re: What Material to make a flux core nozzle?
Yeah, the delrin wont last long with the heat, but it's quick, cheap, and easy for making a cover, especially compared to the commercially available plastic ones. Short of ceramics, exotic metals, and grahite, there's not much out there that will handle the heat and not have shit stick to it. Even g...

Re: Surprises on the job site!
Craziest? I was on a site to do some welding of roof and floor supports before the crane crew lifted the preform walls that way we didn't need to use the lul to weld 4 stories up and eliminated all overhead 7018, and also so we could get the roof on right away. Come back the following day, and the c...
