Re: Oh, so that's how you set the gas flow!

With the machine running I disconnect the wire drive pressure wheel so the wire doesn't feed, squeeze the trigger and then adjust the pressure to 20 CFH. This has to be done every time I start up the welder because I always shut off the gas at the end and release the pressure remaining in the valve.

Re: Can rosebud nozzle be shortened?

I want to make it half as long, about 6". I did find a copper coupling for 5/16" tube that's used in HVAC applications and will use 1/16" dia. 56% silver solder wire to make the joint. I'll post a photo in another forum (I guess you can't post photos on this one?) if all goes well. If...

Re: Can rosebud nozzle be shortened?

I looked and couldn't find any that were short, just the 10-11" versions. I found one, but it was specifically for a certain torch, not a Victor. I wish someone did make a smaller one for sure.

Can rosebud nozzle be shortened?

I have a common Victor style rosebud heating nozzle and want to shorten it. The question is, is the base of the copper tube where it connects to the brass mixing fixture sweated in, screwed or pressed in? I can't see any solder at the joint so I don't think it was sweated. I suppose I could cut the ...

Re: Looking for a respirator.

Just mild steel that has its mill-scale ground off---no galvanizing or coating like that . I'm not a safety freak at all, but those fumes really cause a nagging cough. Anyway I found a low profile Miller respirator for $28.00 I ordered from eBay and other welders who reviewed it say they like it bec...

Looking for a respirator.

Any ideas on a decent respirator for MIG/FC welding? It looks like the types I see in the big box stores with the two canisters on the sides won't fit under a typical hood. Even if I only weld 6-12 inches with solid wire in my shop with the exhaust fan (in-wall) on, I end up coughing for the next tw...

Oh, so that's how you set the gas flow!

Just got my first MIG machine (Hobart Handler 210 MVP), bottle of C25 and .030 solid wire. Watched a bazillion videos and read lots of articles. Got it all set up, turned on the gas and dialed the adjuster valve until it read 20 CFH. Started to weld on clean (ground it shiny)1/8” mild steel plate, b...

Tig rods for gas brazing?

Do any of yoos guys know if brazing rods made for TIG (like silicon and aluminum bronze) can be used for oxy/acetylene brazing like brass rods are? If so, what flux would be used? I have left over rods from when I had a TIG machine and want put them to some use.

Tip to work distance?

Using flux-core---does it mean wire is flush with the contact tip hole and the measurement is from the tip to the work or is it measured from some amount of wire stick-out to the work? I've read about it with gas shield, but I'm unclear how the distance/standoff is measured with FC.

Alpha AHP Tig 200X Dial/Digital setting?

I emailed the company, but no response with this question (hope I'm in the right forum): The main amps dial setting and digital readout are way off----like 50 amps. I'm thinking I should go by the digital, but not sure. Have any of yoos guys had an issue like this with this machine? This is my first...
