Re: Lincoln Square Wave 200

Application specific, unless you limit what you do by refusing work, almost always morphs into "application everything" So in my case, living in farm country where people destroy machinery, owning my own company that does service work all over the state where people break things, being on ...

Re: Best way to cut sheet metal?

I really like the metal cutting saw blades. Of course it depends on what you are cutting. I've used everything from jigsaws, saber saws, oxy/acetylene, plasma arc. And yes we did use some nibblers at work sometimes. I just didn't like them much. With the skil type saws made for cutting metal they ru...

Re: In the Market for a new modernTechnology Mig

I have the Miller 200 and it welds great. I can fine tune it to do whatever I want. In fact I found it has a more stable arc at lower amps compared to any of the Lincolns I used. OK I 'm not dissing Lincoln. Most of the red machines I used at work were meant for heavier welding applications. The exc...

Re: Aluminium boat hull repair

Never welded an aluminum boat, but I would expect you might want to grind out the crack to eliminate any oxidation in the crack and make sure the surrounding surface is really clean and free of oxidation. Wipe it down good with acetone before welding. I know with welding steels that crack migration ...

Re: Dual Shield Welding ???

Absolutely no issues with positioning. Like I said I will have to check into the variables in my friends set-up. He may have been using regular flux core wire rather than wire made for dual shield. All I know was that there was no way you could drag weld with the set up. Whereas push welding resulte...

Re: Ok, it's welded and twisted. Now what?

Glad it worked out for you. I must say that figuring out a weld sequence is a learned experience. I have spent hours experimenting with various clamping, tacking, and welding sequences to minimize warpage. One -offs are another story and it pays to clamp more than you think and weld short sections e...

OK so this is just in fun. Question; if you just saw elm on a crooked mill will it come out straight?

Re: To grate or not to grate.

You might want to check with any scrap metal yards in your area. I regularly buy all sorts of metal from several yards that have resale. The price is much cheaper that buying new. Because I am a "regular" and on good terms with one place I often get a considerable discount as well. So some...

Re: backordered

Unfortunately, You are the victim of so called "just in time inventory". It seems that both the red and blue engage in this business philosophy. When red came out with their new tig machine this last year I tried to find one and got the "it's back-ordered and we don't know when we wil...

Re: I need help troubleshooting my everlasting powetig 250ex

Is the machine grounded? Go through and check to make sure all the connections are right. Also check the crimps on the gas lines. I had to tighten those for minor gas leaks from the factory. Soap all the gas connections. If all else fails give Everlast a call. They have been very responsive when I c...

Re: Dual Shield Welding ???

I will have to check a few things about what I have used doing dual shield welding. I didn't set the machine up nor buy the wire. I stopped over to a friends metal fab shop and got roped into welding for 3-4 days on some outdoor wood stoves. Welding was done indoors. Single pass welds on 3/16" ...

Re: New tig torch set-up

So I get the new CK flex loc water cooled torch in and it is not what I ordered. This after calling 2 times to get the right part # and confirm that "all you have to do is write a comment telling us what welder you have" Then I brain farted and told them to just send 1 quick disconnect for...

Re: TIG Welding Aluminum on DC

I saw some discussion here wondering why Helium/DC welding gives greater penetration yet seems to be a "colder" weld. I certainly don't grasp some of the physics going on here. This is in the realm of plasma/gas interaction physics. I suspect that this is a simple function of thermodynamic...

New tig torch set-up

OK, so I picked up an Everlast 200dx this past year to construct some aluminum tanks and other stainless steel equipment for my business. Figured out pretty quick that welding .100 aluminum causes a hot potato jig sort of hand dance real quick. So I picked up a carbonator pump and motor today at a l...

Re: rookie intro

Welcome, You have tall ambitions wanting to weld a boat. I have watched several boat builds over the years and it is a facinating undertaking. I would recommend that you take a gas welding class also. There is nothing like learning oxy/acetylene welding to better understand how the steel puddle work...

I found myself muddling around trying to set up various aluminum joints wi...

Hi all, I am a retired General Motors guy. I worked there on the assembly line, block machine floor, diemaker, weld engineer(mechanical). I have been welding most of my life. I retired for 7 years and then purchased a business. I am currently on the R&D team for our parent company. So I am redes...
