Ha no I hear you. I try to make them my best but I don't cry in my whiskey when the day is done and it's not perfect. The most important thing to me is structural integrity with the strive for perfection ;) Still curious about the mixing of 5356 & 4X43. Is there a practical reason to do this or ...

Re: pinging sound after welding stainless???

It doesn't sound like this is your problem, BUT if you mix incorrect filler with your work piece, it will make these sounds too but usually it's violent and kinda scary. Like if you weld 4043 to steel and even ER70S2 seemed to have some sound on 309L stainless but the Al/Steel mix made sounds that m...

That's pretty awesome Kym! I wish I gotten into riding sooner but then again I'd probably be dead if I did since those were the stupid years that I purposely skipped over. I never touched one until I knew I had some common sense and self control ;) The girl and I really love the track and hopefully ...

Steve! Knowing seasons experts like you and Jody saying it doesn't always look pretty is inspiring to us n00bs because you might remember how frustrating it is and that complex to be 100% perfect that you start with. I guess one day you just settle. ;) Thank you! One question... Was my experiment mo...

Thanks man! It's coming up soon, just fixing everything else along the way. I got time since we're waiting on customs for some China parts. Tis the season! I ended up buying Grade 1 Titanium from TiCon. I also got a 10% discount code anyone could use for any first time direct purchase :D I got 1/2 l...

Re: Welding cast aluminum

I just did some cast Al that won't experience any heat but requires good strength and the job turned out really well. I fixed two break points. This will never truly be used but for testing purposes with human body weight and jumping on it, it holds. I used 5356 for one side of a weld and 4943 on th...

Re: 4943... finally!

That is some beautiful work Steve! I love my 4943! I haven't noticed unusual distortion but my beads are not that long. It also files out nicer than the 6061 I welded too, kinda like a soft steel vs. gummy aluminum. I'm still waiting on my local supplier to find me a 10lbs box of 3/32. I got 10lbs o...

Re: 330a/bp setup

Josh, I wasn't saying the service is limited to the breaker box, but the house is. If I'm not mistaken the power company dictates your maximum delivery capacity, then your power company meter dictates your home's maximum service capability, then your main breakers dictate your home's existing capaci...

Re: Plastic Welding - Tips n Tricks?

Ultrasonic plastic welding is pretty neat! I saw that a while back. They're responsible for those PITA packages like the ones they put knives in that requires a knife, some wit, and possibly some gauze to open. Also that's how your tooth paste tube is pressed at the end.

Your AC Frequency also dictates how bad it's gonna fuck you up :) Damp gloves, damp leather cape at the elbow, and bad ground, and no gas have been responsible for all my electrical shocks with the HF start. Been electrocuted so many times it's just fun now but I don't hunt for it like it does me. A...

Re: 330a/bp setup

You might regret that Craigslist deal but depending on the wire gauge and length it could be a great deal. Romex is sold by a wire number +1 for ground. So if it's 2 wire Romex, you've got hot, neutral, and ground. If it's 3 wire Romex, you've got 4 total wires. Consider the plug/receptacle you need...

Re: Plastic Welding - Tips n Tricks?

Yeah I didn't think the bolt was the problem, just the underside of the part where they mate at the bolt point. I think you got the right idea with the tack weld all around and some RTV. I'd brass/nylon wire brush all that white stuff out of there too since that will gap your gasket and cause the le...

Re: 330a/bp setup

You should mention the machine seems to require 100A for max output. It'd also help to say your Amp capacity at your main breaker. I think most newer homes max out at 100A across the main breaker from the power company feed but it's been about a year since I had to research that. There's ways of bri...

You could.... FORGE IT! Or have someone who likes forging do the cast for you.

I love this guy's videos, he's got some of the coolest projects but here's him building out his own metal furnace.

Re: Plastic Welding - Tips n Tricks?

Last thing... You could also just try pure Acetone but again you'll be pulling it apart and cleaning it up. Then just get both sides wet with Acetone, slap em together and bolt them down quick. That'll be very low strength but the full surface weld might be enough. I think I even saw a video around ...

All cars come with Gremlins, it's just a question of how many and how long will they wait to come out of hibernation ;) That's definitely ABS so it should be a good candidate for the task. The real question is where is it leaking from. If it's coming out from the bolt then that tells me it's the mat...

Thanks man! I fixed one of those tiny plastic wire clips that always snap the first time you open them to release the wires. Another $8 + shipping saved :D I used my Portasol butane soldering iron with the heat tip to do that since it's so small and has less air CFM. Worked very well and it's flexib...

If it's low pitch with a hint of bass, or sometimes a hiss, but fast to get an Arc, then all is well. If you got this far and Arc is erratic, check tungsten/gas. If it's high pitch, sounds like a wicked wet fart, takes several seconds for an arc, or doesn't initiate arc at all with all those sounds,...

I'm with Kym on the long vs. the short. I haven't needed more than 1.5 inches in almost all my welds except a finger press from Swag Offroad but even then you only wanted to go about 3in at most with a lot of tacks to make sure the thing didn't warp at all. Had I made a long run like my practice wel...
