Re: Looking for AHP Alpha 200x info (HF point gap)

Southpaw hit it on the head. I opened it up, the points were not pointed at each other more like a V, and the gap on the tight side was .037" Aligned and regapped at .022" and it has a sweet, crisp start and the arc has stabilized and the sound is perfectly clean. Thank you! Now, on...

Re: Looking for AHP Alpha 200x info (HF point gap)

Set the arc gap between .021-.023. 5.5mm socket finger tight on the pints is all you need. Not uncommon to find the pints not perfectly squared up to each other from the factory. Thank you, is that an AHP spec or "general"? I've read/watched where some of the Miller machines have a sweet ...

Looking for Alpha 200x info (HF point gap) Thanx southpaw

I've had one for a month now. Works beautiful on DC. I initially tried AC to to ensure it worked, but didnt wring it out. The last 2 days trying to run beads on Alu, having a hard time. You know the "wet fart" sound during arc initiation and tapering off? I does that all the time, while ha...

Re: 4bt cummins alt bracket

I'll admit to being a little envious. I really want to put a 4BT in my Tahoe, but the $$ is prohibitive.
By the time I get the engine, trans adapter and trans controller I'd be way upside down

Re: how do you guys feel about tattoos?

I am not a tatoo fan, but, I dont have to be. If you want one get one.
Inked women are a turn off for me, big time.
What I really dislike is the idjits that looked like their face got gangbanged by a tackle box.

Re: Finally getting tig welder tomorrow.

I have had the occasional similar issue with some sellers on Amazon. I have the Amazon Prime, and when you buy stuff marked Primes 2 day shipping I expect in 2 days, after the date of order. so if you order Tuesday it should arrive Friday at the latest. It used to be when you ordered 2 day shipping ...

Re: Finally getting tig welder tomorrow.

I've had my Alpha Tig 200 x since last Friday. Only week but so far, its an outstanding machine Enjoy it I'm not "new"to TIG, but my experience has been limited to repairing cracked aluminum heads, not much steel or fabrication. I found some photos somewhere on here the other day of what y...

Learned about magnets today

So I'm building a cart for my new AHP tig machine (I suppose pics are mandatory?) and yesterday I wet to attach the bottle bracket and tried to light the tig torch. zzzzzthppstppsnorttudzappyzappyzappy!~ WTF? I had left a magnet on the back side of the frame. I have been welding for over 20 years, a...

quick newb question consumable sepraration?

My TIG in the past has been 99% aluminum, so it wasnt an issue for me, Do you guys keep your tungsten's, cups, collets etc segregated so the ones used on steel dont get used on aluminum or the other way around?? If so, how anal are you, collets, bodies/gas lens, cups and tungsten's or combinations l...

Hello from the new guy!

Howdy all, Just signed on, glad to find like minded people to learn from. My welding experience while covering a long time line, is not hugely extensive. I started stick welding around 12 years old on my dads old Sears buzz box. Adulthood found me in a job that got me more exposure to occasional sti...
