Re: cheater lens for welding helmet

The helmets typically have an optional "frame" or "cage" to hold the cheater lens. You will need to investigate with your helmet brand's website. If it is an inexpensive helmet, you might have an issue. You can also measure the lens size, and often find compatible frames/lenses ...

cheater lens for welding helmet

I would like to put a cheater lens in my auto darkening helmet. however, when I look inside it, there's no way that I can see how the lens would be secured in place. I purchased this helmet on ebay last year. do the brand name helmets have this option, or is there a way to make it work in the existi...

metal cutting

Hello all, haven't posted in a while. would like to know anyone's opinion on what would be the most versatile to get. should I get a band saw, metal cutting blade for my circular saw, or a dedicated metal circular saw? right now I'm using cutting disc on my angle grinder, and it's making a mess in m...

keeping overhead lighting from penetrating hood

Hello all, when I'm welding, sometimes the overhead lighting infiltrates into my hood from above. Do they sell a apron or cover that I can put over my hood to prevent this? Thanks

Re: flux core vs mig

Thanks for all the responses. Guess I'll be checking to see whats available out there. I have both 120v and 240v in the garage. so power is not an issue. maybe I can look for a dual purpose machine that does both as one poster said. sometimes I'm welding 16 gauge sheet metal. Thanks

flux core vs mig

Hello all, I'm just a hobbyist welder. presently I use a lincoln 225 ac stick welder. whenever I watch these car fabrication shows, they're either using mig or tig welding. I might want to invest in another welder for welding thin stuff, but because I only do this occasionally, don't want to invest ...

Re: For you guys that aren't pros.

Do this as a hobby. when I mess up on a weld, I just grind it off and re-weld it until I'm satisfy. In fact, this gives me more practice. so far I've built a welding and torch cutting carts, and they haven't failed yet.

fire resistant work gloves

Hello all, can someone suggest any brand of work glove that has heat or fire resistant stitching? so far I've gone through 3 pairs of work gloves when I'm using my angle grinder. it appears that the sparks are destroying the stitching and eventually the fingers come apart. I tried wearing my welding...

freezing temps affecting welder?

Hello, I live in upstate N.Y and it's been pretty cold up here for the past few weeks. one day I decided to do some practice welding and when I turned the welder on it sounded as if the fan was struggling to come up to speed. My garage is unheated. Is this to be expected when it's real cold? I have ...

Hello all, got a question about using my torch. It's an apollo torch which I purchased from a company called Mundaka which is located in Fl. there's been a few times where my sleeve brushed against the adjustment knobs and it altered the fuel/oxy ratio. Does anyone know if there's a way to put a lit...

Hello all, are the cutting tips sizing the same for propane and acetylene? also if I have a tip that can cut 3/4 thick metal, does that mean it will cut anything smaller, or do I need something for cutting smaller stuff. thanks

thanks for the vid. another question. when I initially light the torch, should there be a slight gap between the nozzle and flame, or should the flame be up against the nozzle? Thanks
