You are a climber? And you had your wife keep the tensions? Ladies and gentlemen we have us a real man here. I wouldn't climb agree if I was cutting on it if I was trained and had all the equipment. Not really, I used a ladder to get up the tree to tie a rope as high as I could. 8-) She was in the ...

Re: Manganese info

I weld manganese steel to AR Bucket steel regularly. Never done it to stainless. If it's aluminum rod you are talking about, thread it, or drill and rivet it. I've seen old buckets repaired with stainless. It is very ductile, so cooling contraction won't break something. If stainless, I might use a...

Re: My very first project!

If you have tip over problems just weld a tray in the bottom and stick some old weights from your barbells in it. :D Or eld a round bar across the correct place down there and add weights just like you would put them on a bar bell or a dumbbell. Good job for a first project.

Re: Gremlins

It's a real problem. The way around it is to avoid putting things down. Develop a work method where everything has it's place even if it's a bucket that follows you. Tape measures can clip on your belt when away from it's place. Chalk is a pain so I keep chalk all over the place so there is always ...

Thank you! I started at 10 cfh, and each try I increased by 5 up to 30 cfh. I have literally welded, ground, then welded this joint a dozen times. For the filet, I also ground it to bright shinny metal to start with. But it looks scaled over when I'm done. Much more so than the flat welds. I have e...

Re: Cast iron tig braze - aluminum bronze

Well I knew there must have been a reason...I guess cutting a bunch more and stamping them etc must cost a little more. Anyhow, I scored and got 10 pounds 1/16 ALBA2 for $123 cause I found a 10% coupon in my mail from October and it was still valid from Weldfabulous. I don't recall ever seeing .035...

Re: Cast iron tig braze - aluminum bronze

why is 1/16 always (or most always) more expensive than 3/32 or 1/8 for 10 pounds? I guess it's because you get more rods. Thanks ;) Well 10 lbs is 10lbs, the smaller diameter wire is more expensive to make, I priced .030" 316L recently it was $12.90 and .035" was $8.82 per lb Well ...

Re: Cast iron tig braze - aluminum bronze

I read on here recently that Bakers Welding and Gas had great prices on tig filler (I think they were discussing 4943) so I called them about some aluminum bronze A2 (ALBA2) for a price on 10 pounds as they only have 1 lb tubes shown. He said just order 10 and we will ship it in a 10 lb box. S...
