Re: I like this guy, can we steal him?

Of course it's not *all* the youth. But it sure is a bunch of 'em. Parents have a lot to do with it too. Lot's of parents let their kids do anything they want, and if they want something they just piss and moan and the parents give it to them. When I was a youngster I was working with a paper route ...

Re: I like this guy, can we steal him?

This is so weird reading these posts about the youth. The only young people that will ever read this are not the problem. As per usual the people who need the help don't try and those that don't need it are talking about it. It sucks being a part of this generation. I just hope something or someone...

Re: I like this guy, can we steal him?

There is a rather funny meme running about: You want $15/hour to do your job at McDs? My d!ck is harder in the morning than your job Picture a pipeliner laying in the snow/mud stick welding some 48" pipe together. Enough said. Mile Rowe is absolutely right about the abandonment of VoTech class...

Re: Brake Drum Forge

Great job on the forge One of a kind. I too, do not sell on Craigslist unless the item is something I can haul over to a meeting spot like a WalMart or Lowes etc. I was selling an old lathe once and this older guy comes by to see it but then tries to tell me he "has too many kids" so he wa...

Re: Rebuilding your own regulators

Can anyone give any advice on this as far as the actual rebuild? I've googled and found elsewhere that the safety issues usually pop up and derail the thread. I found one youtube video of someone replacing a seat on a single stage while on the cylinder. I do know that rebuilding it on the cylinder ...

Maybe he could get a lathe out of the deal to make a new pin to replace the one that pulled out of the handle. :D

How to become a millionaire. Start with ten million dollars and start a welding and machining hobby. ;)

Re: Watermelon knife repair

I would go with a 1/8" lanthanated tungsten and 300 amps with AC postive (no pulse) and put the pedal down to the floor to quickly ramp up the heat. Use 1/8" 309 SS filler and a #14 cup with the CFH set at 50. Then order that one off of Amazon.

Re: Question for the machinists in the group

The width of the bearing is 3/8. My plan is to cut the bearing opening to that 3/8 depth in a ring that will touch only the inner bearing ring, and cut the rest of the opening a touch deeper. That should provide that same compressibility of the tube idea. You got it. ;) The tube on a motorcycle whe...

Re: Question for the machinists in the group

I would make some spacers to fit between the two bearings. Use 5/8 od 1/16 wall tubing. Open the id so the bolt fits thru. Press the bearings in with the spacer between the inner rings. Now you can install the 1/2 inch bolt and tighten the daylights out of it and it won't put any undue stress on th...

Re: Question for the machinists in the group

Id of the bearing is 1/2, so slightly larger bore through the rest of the wheel for axle clearance. You're putting a bearing on each side yeah like on a skateboard wheel? Some of the ones I've seen just had a single bearing but it seems like a good way to chew it out. Can't really tighten them up e...

Wow! Thanks for responses. At the risk of exposing my ignorance... I'm glad I posted this question. Use the compound or a taper attachment if your lathe has one and a good tool bit. ;)

Re: Question for the machinists in the group

For a press fit or interference fit I would go .0005 to .001 and would get there by using a reamer. Then I would heat the piece with a hot air gun and tap the bearing in. If you go too loose you can always add some green loctite 640 to fix that. So machine the hole for your 1.125 OD bearing to 1.124...

Nice work there One of a kind. And I also like seeing that clean shop and know it isn't easy keeping it that way. I too am interested in the make and model of that little mini belt sander. Re: Which chopsaw or Bandsaw would you get?

I have a bandsaw but I still use my chop saw for cutting rebar and making cuts where a welded joint prevents the bandsaws vice from holding the steel. Is that a Ridgid when it actually had the cast iron base? I bought one just after they cheapened the base and almost returned it. Then I decided I c...
