Re: Correlation of chemical composition with mechanical prop
You need to work with your heat treater, they can review their process and adjust, were they aware of these requirements, if they were, they should have tested this. A good relationship with them will be rewarding.

Re: I thought buying another welder would be "easier"!......
I have a L tec 250 and love it, it requires a 100 amp breaker but i run on a 60 with good results. It came with a nice bernard cooler and 18 torch. I dont like the stiff leads for the torch but it stick welds like a DREAM. Parts for these machines are hard to come by and I believe L tec was bought b...

Re: Opinion time
My opinion, Robots are used in mass production for sure. Would you really want to weld the same parts together for 8-10 hours a day for years. I would not want that job. A good paying career could involve operating / programming the robot. And this would most likley be done by an experienced weldor....

Re: What Was Your First Welder
I think I tried welding around 8 or 9 years old, my father had a welder and welded since he was younger. A salesman stopped one day I think in the late 50's and sold the family an old forney that you switch your lead to the amps you want to weld with. I started on that machine, when I was about 13 h...

I have a problem building something for myself that would be cheaper to buy. Spend a week in spare time to make somthing that would cost $40 to buy. Does that qualify?

This exact thing happened to me today! Never before have I had a magnet mess with my arc, that I knew of. Magnet was positioned at a right angle to my torch angle. Totally destroyed my stubby gas lens, melted the side of my cup. Definitely took me a bit to figure that one out! The arc focused on eve...

Magnets used for holding
Does anyone have a good way to clean magnets? I constantly am annoyed by the metal dust attracted to them. The triangle type seem to be the worst, it all builds up between layers, A simple careful wipe with a cloth helps but dont get as much as i would like.tried another magnets with a simple shape ...

I started a repair project. These arms pivot on cast bosses on the rear of planters, they wear out and typically people buy new and replace worn parts, I machined some tubing to accept roller bearings and tig welded the machined bosses to the worn out frame. I tack welded aluminum channel to 1/4 inc...

Very interesting, even though they are classified as a 6010 you can witness a definite difference. I now have other proof to show others that argue all rods are created equal. This Makes me wonder if some of these low cost suppliers really provide what they are supposed to be, I question the physica...

I have an Ltec machine, I needed to replace a plug on mine, local welding supply told me good luck. Ended up going to grainger and getting a replacement plug for 10$. Where I am going with this is, I think you could get the necessary plugs from grainger industrial supply and put them on a older styl...

Airgas has a other name coolant for $26 , the miller low conductivity looks to be around $36. A gallon, that had a mix of deionized water and glycol.not sure of the rv antifreeze boiling point. Miller does rate their boiling point. I know the 18 torch i have does get warm welding 1/4" aluminum ...

Re: Bernard v35 tig cooler colant
Just guessing the unit is from the 80's, I am not sure what they had for coolant then for these machines. Probably best thing for me to do is drain it completely, flush with? And refill with current tig coolant, being in central Wisconsin, I will need it to be antifreeze Of some type, so it looks li...

I have an older bernard v35 cooler that is a little low and I would like to top it off but I am not sure what to use, a friend told me to use regular antifreeze for automobiles, it currently looks green like regular coolant. Would anyone know where I could get a manual for this unit? What fluid shou...

On my older transformer machine, I would Need to Use 1/8" Pure tung, Balled on Reverse polarity DC prior to welding, I had very similar problems, Pre heat the base metal to the point you see the moisture flash off, and use 1/8" Filler Rod otherwise it melts prior to reaching the puddle. D...
