Yes, fully assemble it and start the engine if you need to apply the charger. You stated that you had low output, so the excitation circuit was working on some level. Low output troubleshooting: Needs 3600 rpm at "weld" throttle setting. Can also be verified with a multimeter as 60Hz on th...

Re: Gernerwelderbeater 130 project
My main questions are about a source for the diodes, and difficulty of installation. Also did you have to hook up a battery charger to bring back the magnetic field? Thanks in advance. What is the voltage on the outlet and on the output lead connection? Some of my pictures seem to be missing from t...

Re: Tig noob and Syncrowave 250 resto project
I'm guessing someone canned both water check valves and the gas valve after the attached gas panel broke. What the manual doesn't detail is the sensing coil molded in to the panel(part#215691). This has the two black leads that plug into the molex. Mine was broken and found a new one for $20. Don't ...

Hi Nice repair of your tig cooler in the syncrowave Where did you get your motor and pump I am crossing the help code as well ! Thanks Charlie The pump and motor arrived as an assembly from ebay. I think it was removed from a microchip manufacturing machine. ~50psi seemed to be a safe range for tor...

Functional and free, can't beat that. Which gas lens is that Would like to know which lathe you have and if you like it. It is a standard large lens and nozzle is a #15. Try these part numbers for the 2 series torches: 45V64S and 53N89. There should be similar parts for the 3 series. I started with...

Another diy torch holder
I made this one out of practice scrap and immediate necessity when I first started. The arms are silicon bronze practice and the magnet shows off my j.b. welding skills  . It is so comfortable to use that the torch nearly holsters itself. It clamps onto the aluminum table as well. IMG_20190519...

It seems that it can be isolated to the high frequency start circuit. Before you go down that path, grab the right manual and check off a few more basic items. https://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/support/pages/operator-manuals.aspx?type=text&q=TIG%20300%2F300 Inspect and set spark gap. If poin...

Yeah, I screwed up the points setting. It is a Tecumseh HM80. Found a technicians handbook for download that has the specs. All of the below has been checked or set with the new points installed. It turns out that the points setting is an initial step for setting the timing. If the points are change...

Re: Gernerwelderbeater 130 project
Your diagnosis is correct, Dr. Brian. Definitely a pre-AVR model. I've found that I already had an rpm meter right there in my hand. With a cheap lead wrapped around the plug wire, the first picture shows the same 42Hz that we saw earlier. 42 x 60 = 2520 rpm. It needed a good amount of adjustment to...

Re: Gernerwelderbeater 130 project
All of the maintenance is done on the engine aside from installing the new points/condenser. The cheap carb. from amazon cleared up the rough running problems and it starts on the first pull. ~$45 for a very complete maintenance kit including carb. I've carefully popped the seal off on the stator be...

I will put all of these Ideas to the test and I really appreciate it. I've mainly been doing tacking and 1/16 beads last week using shade 13 as much as possible. No eye problems last week. Thicker material and longer beads are in progress this week. There is something rigged up to pull the fumes awa...

This is a Generweld one thirty that has been around as far back as I can remember. It had a rod hanging out of the engine block. A friend is a machinist and casting repair specialist. He thought he could use it and repaired the engine a few years ago. The picture is not a proper presentation of his ...

I've read that people with light eye color may have problems and I do. Even at night, I don't leave home without sunglasses and I keep the computer monitors turned way down. I'm working with aluminum up to 1/4" 90% of the time. The current unit is the older Miller Infinity (SKU: 271329) set to ...

Re: Older machines functions
Seems like you have the coarse adjustments listed. Then the knob will offer fine adjustment between these ranges.
i.e. set it at 5 and use the fine adjustment to dial in 5-34 amps.
A manufacturer and model# would help if you can find it or a picture.

Good luck! In my spare time (if I get any.. ) I like to work on and run old vintage computers of the 'refrigerator' size so I know some of the issues you're running into... Dried-out capacitors are a common issue on these too. Once you know the smell they give off you can usually start to tel...

Re: Goliath CNC knee mill
I confirmed that the machine was working on a very basic level before it was moved. I recently powered it back up to "run it through the paces" on the motion control. I wanted to do more visual evaluation and measurements to finalize a parts order. I did my due diligence and checked for an...

Re: Goliath CNC knee mill
I'm not a fan of RPC. It's a stepping stone that I want to skip due to cost(detracting from a better solution), noise, and inefficiencies. It just doesn't fit my particular long-term goals. If I have no choice due to a variety of circumstances, that may still happen. The coolant will be sorted with ...

Re: GLOVES
I use the 25B as well for the feed hand and the fingers were initially too loose. You can custom shrink deerskin without destroying them. I washed them and put them in the dryer. It is easy to overdo, so check them often. The torch glove fit wasn't the problem and continued to shrink with use, so ma...

Re: Goliath CNC knee mill
I've done some checking and found that we used a Bobcat T870 to unload it. There was planning and a skilled operator to pull it off. That doesn't make it safe or right in any way. Don't do what we did . We used a Skytrak 8K# to load it and that handled it, no problem. The moving costs ate the budget...

I'd like to see a skid steer that can lift 6,000 lbs. 2500 is more like it for a skid steer. You may be right on that. I remember it having tracks which would make it a track loader; not a skid steer as the guy was calling it. I think it was a Bobcat. I will get a picture if I ever make it back ove...

Goliath CNC knee mill
This is what a 6500# + CNC knee mill looks like. I'm less than pleased to announce a series of miscalculations on this. My original thought was that a CNC knee mill, on average, should not go over 4k#. I still stand by that thought as being logical. After more picture analysis....this is no average ...
