Re: Opinions on best way to weld this project
Yes i understand the hot short cracking fairly well. And i always use filler. My only question was this joint specifically. If you think about it like this... In essence you have an inside corner joint with a 1/32" Gap welded with 4043 filler. My question is if i weld the outside corner joint a...

Re: Opinions on best way to weld this project
So I started welding all the way around tonight doing about 3-4" at a time and skipping around. So far no distortion. I'll have to pick up some of that filler to try I've never used it before. It doesn't need to be water tight. In fact I'm going to drill a whole and weld a piece of pipe on the ...

Opinions on best way to weld this project
I am making an aluminum tray out of .125" AL plate. I got it free so im not sure what it is but i assume 3003 or 6061. It will be recessed into the floor of my boat and the trolling motor pedal will go inside it. So far i have designed and cut all my pieces and tacked them together. I am using ...

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
Both the regulator and flow meter are new. I have used one 125cf argon tank take thru it. Its the regulator that came with my Everlast 256SI. Also when i first press the pedal i get a huge puff the blasts way up on the meter and pegs the ball against the stop pin. IT stays there for about 1sec maybe...

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
I completely forgot to get a measurement of that pyrex cup... I did get some alumina cups in for my small gas lenses. It does seem better than the #10 pyrex cup. I think the pyrex being larger than the gas lens was part of the problem. But i still feel like a regular collet body and #6 cup welds bet...

Re: Quick Cast Aluminum Patch Job
Not sure what caused it to happen. I assume some hit a rock. Or had water in oil and it froze. But based on the aluminum condition around it I'm thinking a rock.
I did leave fill plug out. So that pressure wouldn't build.

Quick Cast Aluminum Patch Job
So this was my first go at repairing an aluminum casting. And of course i experienced every possible complication. The repair was to the lower unit of an outboard motor. So it had 20 years of gear lube soaked into it. Apparently the lower unit had cracked and the original owner attempted to JB weld ...

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
LOL Sounds like a plan. I will get those measurements for you. I am ordering a flow meter to measure flow coming off the nozzle. I have seen those videos where it looks like a fog machine coming out of the torch nozzle so you can see the improved flow from the gas lens. Is there a product i can pump...

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
I have from .040 up to 1/8th tungsten and gas lenses for this kit. I have been using the 3/32" size thus far. I would like to know if a diffuser would remedy my troubles. I am always experimenting with different things. I love to tinker. I am an engineer by trade, angler by heart, and welder ho...

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
Yeah it came with all four. I'll try another size today.
If u don't think it's too low or too much past tungsten what do u think it is? Too turbulent flow?

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
I'll check that out. But I'm getting had flow I can hear and feel it coming out the cup. I'm thinking the gas lens itself is garbage. Or that too much gas is flowing around the tungsten. It's not a tight fit around tungsten.

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
I do not have any Alumina cups for the gas lens. Yes the lens is secured by the orings. Here is the standard setup i use. http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk287/FireKracker50/IMG_20170406_125428695.jpg Here is the gas lens setup http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk287/FireKracker50/IMG_20170406_1...

Re: Difference in Gas Lenses
I didn't buy the set for the Pyrex cups. I could care less if they are clear or alumina cups. I bought it because i wanted a stubby gas lens setup. yes i hear and feel gas. If you click on the picture i have attached in the upper right corner there is a picture of the torch setup. I installed mine e...

Re: Lincoln 3/32" 6011 on Everlast Machine
Thanks for all the great feedback. The box was tig welded together before the lid and hinges were welded on. So when i was welding the outside corner joints it was sitting with the lid side down flat on the plate. So when i welded the joint it was 180deg from the way it is sitting in the picture. I ...

Re: Stick Electrode Video Suggestion
So far i have 3/32" Lincoln fleetweld 37 (6013), 3/32" Weldcote (7018), 3/32" Lincoln Fleetweld 180 (6011), and 1/8" Hobart 418 (7018). The 1/8" Hobart 7018 runs like butter. They lay down a beautiful weld and will run with a very tight arc or even dragging the flux on the b...

Stick Electrode Video Suggestion

Re: Lincoln 3/32" 6011 on Everlast Machine
I don't have AC stick on my machine. Only AC tig. I purchased 6011 because i heard they run better on inverter machines than the 6010. I think i may get a box of 6010 and try them. The 6011 definitely penetrates better and will weld through paint and rust allot better than 6013. I really dont have a...

Re: Lincoln 3/32" 6011 on Everlast Machine
So I have been burning through allot of electrodes. Feel like i have learned allot about how the different electrodes run. I have 3/32 Lincoln Fleetweld 180 6011, 3/32 Lincoln Fleetweld 37 6013, 3/32" Weldcote 7018, and 1/8" Hobart 7018. The 1/8" 7018 is easy as can be to run and come...

Thank you all for advice. As far as Jody's videos. I have been watching them for months now every night. It's about the only thing I use my TV for, lol. I watched for a second time his 6011 video, and the one about stick rods, and I think there was a third one I found also call something like someti...

Lincoln 3/32" 6011 on Everlast Machine
I just purchased an Everlast 256SI primarily for the Tig function. But until I get a bottle of argon i wanted to get started practicing stick welding. I bought 5# of Lincoln 6011 3/32" rods and so far I have ran about 10 sticks. Trying from 50-80amps. And from 0-100% dig. On 1/4" angle iro...
