Re: Gearing up - Way too many questions

I was just busting your chops. I hear you, Franz. As the old saying goes, "There are many roads to Rome". I'll pick one, for three, and enjoy the inevitable lessons of humility on the way. I recently bought the book called Metals And How to Weld Them, so I figure that's a good start at und...

Re: Gearing up - Way too many questions

I got a whole bottle full of pills for the blood pressure so no need for concern on that score. Maybe this approach will work for you. Ya learn to drive the B-210 before you even think about the Z car. Melting metal together so it turns back solid someplace other than on the floor is an ancient blac...

Re: Gearing up - Way too many questions

OK, you got a machine, and you got a cylinder of gas, and it sounds like the man who sold you the cylinder was fairly honest since he gave you a pressure gauge and explained how to use it to you. Now, lets look at what you haven't got! It definitely sounds like you haven't got experience welding wit...

You can always weld up a Thein separator and then weld up a ramp and winch to haul it out when the barrel is full.

Well, as long as the affirmative action employee only working for ITW till they can find a sucker to pay off their student loans read it off their screen, that makes the information absolute. After all, that Expert probably has a Degree in Communications and learned to read the screen in an authenti...

Re: Flowmeter and Regulators

The only reason that regulator is delivering 50 psi is because it was set to 50 and locked there. Lower the pressure regulator to where you want it by backing the screw off. 50psi is way too wild of a ride. I'm told that the flow meter will not read properly then. It is calibrated to 50psi Just wha...

Re: Welding in your basement

First, you need to define your hazards. Since you specify TIG there shouldn't be a lot of sparks produced, other than in grinding. Second, no exhaust fan is worth spit unless adequate makeup air is included in the system Third, curtain enclosures are wonderful things IF and only if they are done cor...

Since the motor works in every other setting it's pretty likely the defect is not the motor.

Re: Whats the deal over at Welding Web?

Looking more and more like the British Company who bought Penton decided to scrap Penton's stupid boards that don't make a buck, or is that Pound or possibly even Euro. Everything that made money from Trucking to Agriculture and back has been up and running for a week. The Brits probably assigned We...

Rigid makes a machine that might get you to low temp brass meltpoint.

Why not just use the copper epoxy glue if you can't use fire?

Re: Gas Supply Hose Some Sort of Greenish Oily Residue Norma

Green is corrosion residue from brass/Co2 reaction.
Many regulators made for low cost MIG machines are a grade of brass that is quite reactive with Co2. Same applies to fittings.
That nipple shows obvious sign of having been on a tank, or adapter so who knows what went through it.

Re: Whats the deal over at Welding Web?

2 + 2 generally = 4. Penton hasn't been able to make a thin dime on WeldingWeb in a couple years. I seem to recall a comment from some executive mood eraser over there that Penton had turned the site over to the Mood erasers to run. Penton probably finally figured out they made a bad buy back in 06 ...

Few things I can tell you for when you start, Safety equipment is there for a reason. Learn the reason and use the equipment. You only get one chance. NEVER be seen with your hands in your pockets. Old hands consider that means you're lazy. If you're finished with the job you were assigned, grab the...

Last of those I saw lived under the bottlehouse shop foreman's office at Genesee Beer Foundry in 1967 and had been there longer than any employee remembered. You can make the plugs from brass rod, copper tube and solder faster than you'll find them. Before you do anything, open the machine and blow ...

1, arrive ahead of time. Realize the interview begins with whoever first greets you and behave appropriately from the moment you walk in. Half of potential hires flunked out before I saw them either because of how they spoke to Evie or because they were too lazy to grab the empty cup in reception an...

Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel since this is an education situation you might be well served contacting NTID at RIT or even Galludet. NTID seems to be at the forefront of closed captioning, having it near real time translation now. They may have students who can and are willing to CC all t...

1st generation of that series of P&H machines, 1962 at the newest. Tips over and lands hard real easy. It's supposed to be butugly green! P&H redesigned the housing, moved the fan to the back & gave it a big square tin box. Also reoriented the transformer & reactor to reduce stress o...
