Re: Information on Dc Offset?

I've never heard of or seen a setting like that. Could you post a picture of the machines face and list the make and model of machine? I probably still won't be able to help but its one of the first questions I see asked by the people more knowledgeable then me on this forum. Sent from my Pixel 3a u...

Re: Pferd Alumaster

Gee whiz, just so we know right, no matter the wheel you should only use half of it. For example if you have an imaginary line from lead, handle through centre of wheel i.e. top to bottom then only cut with the side that spins down on that side, often that's the difference between kick back and bla...

Re: Pferd Alumaster

It's a oshlun 5 3/8" diameter aluminium cutting blade. I purchase them straight from Amazon. They'll stay sharp for a very long time as long as I don't hit a tungsten inclusion or a sand inclusion in a casting. Little red sparks for half a second and it never cuts quite the same as a fresh blad...

Hmm been a while since I used the forum on a computer. I remember the picture attaching process was a little involved. On the Tapatalk app though it's easy right below my text box there's a little add photo/file button and I just pick em out of the photo gallery or take one on the fly to be added. B...

Re: 40 years in and still learning

Welcome to the forum, I think your going to love the dynasty 400. It's what I get the pleasure of using at work and it's been one hell of a machine for me for a couple+ years now. I suggest when time allows to sit dow. And try all the waveforms back to back and play with the amplitude on AC l. Its v...

Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram

Do you know if it's the exact same size as a standard CK 20 series? I'm just trying to figure out if it's bulkier to allow the 50 extra amp capacity. Also the flex love looks nice and good for certain application a but the bulk of my welding well exceeds the amp limit of the flex loc. Sent from my P...

Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram

Oh and somewhat off topic now that I re read your post again. How do you like the CK 230? Is it the same size as a standard 20 series WC torch? I've been wanting one but worried it's larger in someway(whether it be the handle or the head) which is how they get the amp limit higher in that size categ...

Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram

I've seen 2% lanth split, brocoli ballup etc. But I do keep in mind I push the tungsten right to it's amp limit and quite often well past it. Will have to reach out to wolfram and see if their stuff will alleviate my tungsten cleanup and consumption issues. Thanks for the info Sent from my Pixel 3a ...

It's definitely the kind of tool you put zero pressure on and let the wheel do its thing. And if I do end up getting one into the shop I bet I'll be the only one crazy enough to run it just like my current saw setup. Everyone in the shop is spooked by it and don't use it even though it would 10x fas...

Re: My oxi torch

I'd be looking for a rebuilder in your area. My local rebuilder charges $45 to clean/disassemble a torch and let you know what parts it needs to be functional and more importantly to be safe in your hands. They didnt even ask for make and model of torch. Just a flat 45 per setup to be checked out. T...

Re: Is there a secret to TIG Tack welds?

Also with the 6061 video isn't that actually a thing though or am I crazy? Pretty sure I remember a article in the past about NASA and friction stir welding. Friction-stir welding is quite different in that it takes what looks like a weirdly shaped milling cutter and by force jams it into the base ...

The frame he pulled off the filter is what I couldn't get apart without feeling as though it was going to break. I never tried from the front side so maybe that's the trick to it.

Thanks for the link

Re: How inflated are local steel prices compared to online?

Yup I can confirm copper went up. Our core suppliers all had to increase our cost 30-50% due to rising raw material cost across all components of the core. Was also talking with someone who said they read a article claiming the oceanliners are backed up due to there being a shortage of the specially...

Re: Budget Welding Hood?

You didn’t miss. You have to release the screen to change the batteries. No different than changing the cover I can get the filter out but there's an additional cover on the filter that I haven't figured hoe to remove that is preventing the battery covers from sliding out. I'm still probably just m...

Re: Fractures on rear side of T-joint

New or not fact is you got a crack that appears like a stress crack. Could've happened during cooling after welding. Could've happened during forming the tube. Hell could of even have happened during shipping somehow. I've definitely learned in my years that just cause something is new does not mean...

I recently picked up a Lincoln 2450 on july. It cost me $389 CDN. Edited model and price cause my brain was waaay off. It's a hell of a good good for the cost and I foresee many years of good service from it. Nice and clear vision with a slight blue tint. Changed to it from a old cheap china green t...

Re: How inflated are local steel prices compared to online?

Crazy part I find about the price of steel going up. I work in a town that has a steel mill owned by one the largest steel companies in the world (to my understanding) And if I'm not mistaken on my last drive around town out on deliveries. The storage yards are just as full as I've ever seen them. H...

Re: 9 17 26 etc number meaning.

Q (of Qanon fame) has been hiding cryptic messages in the naming structure of TIG torch lines. All will become clear when Q drops the anon and rises to power, and the codes will become instructions and make perfect sense. My CK 17 air-cooled 3 series torch told me just the other day that I should g...

Well as a little update to this, After much back and forth with PFERD area sales rep for me. Re: Fractures on rear side of T-joint

Would that happen to be the seat tube? Seen that kind of cracking once and it was beside the seat tube weld. Turns out you can only put so long of a seat stem in or that kinda stuff happens. But I'd also say that crack runs through the metal. Dye check would tell you for sure. Sanding against the cr...

Re: TIG Brazing Body Panels - Butt Joints OK?

Also a little side note if your looking towards brazing. Eastwood makes a panel prep tool (pretty sure they have a vise grip style and a pneumatic style) It rolls the edge of the sheet metal down slightly so a butt weld becomes more of a groove weld so you have more material in the joint once ground...

Re: Is there a secret to TIG Tack welds?

The setting higher method isn't a bad way to learn how many amps you like for tacking. Just setup a video of the front end of your machine while you do it and see how high the pedal went for your result. Can probably narrow down your amps within 5 tacks and lower if needed to get more pedal control ...

Re: Still battling rust on the old welding table,

On my table or bare steel surfaces I've found so far the best to be penetrating oil in a aersol can and scrub it in with scotch Brite hand pads . Not sure if it's the scrubbing with oil/scotch Brite or just routine oiling that keeps rust at bay in a wet/acidic shop environment but it works. I'm so d...
