Re: advice in need
Oh boy that looks like some fun you've got there. Do they expect the repair to look like it never happened or are they okay with a weld bead @ the break? Also do you have the room once assembled to have a piece of tubing slipped in between the broken bits for strength? Sent from my Pixel 3a using Ta...

I also find the lighting your working in makes a huge difference. If I'm under my lights with no shadows I'm fine. If I'm forced to block my light and make a shadow it gets a bit darker/trickier. For a temporary fix you may find a cheapo 10-20 dollar desk/floor lamp to be beneficial. A good helmet w...

Re: Tig 1/2 square tubing
Hey it's tacked together now ain it? [emoji14] I think they meant in the flat to flat section though. For that section if your trying to tack it's a bit trickier because of the natural gap from the radius of the one piece of tube. You could alleviate that by slightly notching/ coping the vertical tu...

That's what I wound up with when we upgraded was a dynasty 400. Hell of a machine, I hardly use all the bell and whistles but when I need em and use em I'm thankful I have them. Like you said they just make the jobs easier, not necessary but nice to have. Did you get the newer model with fan on dema...

To be honest, I quite enjoy sitting down every now and again with a coffee and just reading some of the shenanigans in those comment sections. Re: Let's talk about cutting metal
Metal cutting blades on a skillsaw type metal saw can be pretty affordable and you can achieve quite a bit with one.
That or a porta bandsaw which depending on size would also allow a fair bit of versatility.

Well I'm north of the border from you guys, not sure if anyone else is close to me. Guess the easiest way is to just say the shop is in the GTA or golden horseshoe. Even though that's a huge area I call it close for Canada. Would be interesting to meet some people and see what they get up to etc. Se...

I used to run a #17 @185 amps till the machine red lined. The torch will handle it. The question is will your hands. Have a thermal pic from a while back the cup area was 300 F and the handle was anywhere from 100-200 F depending how close to the head it was. Even the cable reached 100 F. You may wa...

Re: Tig 1/2 square tubing
That's the joys of hand fabrication. Alot of fitting pieces one by one. It goes with the old saying of spending 10 minutes now to save yourself an hour later. Tighter fitups are just easier to weld and also don't allow as much distortion to happen during welding I find. Sent from my Pixel 3a using T...

Re: Tig 1/2 square tubing
I agree, more amps quickly is the key to a clean Tig tack, took me a while to wrap my head around that. As far as placement goes I'd tack on one corner then resquare as required and tack down the opposing corner. If this a job that's to be bang on square check again and tack down the last two corner...

Re: Weld estimator program
I haven't seen a weld shop directed management/ quoting software but the type of software we use at work could be modified to suit a weld shop. Materials and gas could all be entered as part #'s sold by foot or inch or whatever unit you want I believe. Labour you would have to work out if your going...

I agree with the keyway it should not be some kind of turn lock system, but MasterCraft stuff is just built different to logical I find. Wouldn't shock me at all if it was some weird turn and lock system with a key way wheel. I don't see anything in the picture that holds the roller in line with the...

It doesn't look like anything is locking it on to the shaft. But curiousity sake have you tried holding the center shaft and turning the guide roller independent to see if it has like a quarter turn lock or something?

Well since I want to try and lost more on here but the last job for welding I had was a get er done scenario there was no time for pictures. If you want both torches hooked up at the same time but can't find a threaded Y fitting buy a tubing Y fitting off Amazon or the like. I'd cut my hose wherever appropriate in the system then run a second hose to the second torch. Or if you wanna get fancy to a second threaded hookup port. I think th...

Re: Tig welding 6061-t6 aluminum 1/8” flat bar tee joint
On a 1/8 T joint I'd be setting the machine to 170-180 ish so the weld can be 'punched' into the root at the start then back off the pedal when things start running too hot. Sounds like the issue your having is mainly not enough amps at the start to punch the weld down into the root. Used to deal wi...

I've never personally done stainless purging but I do have to make a 10'x10' stainless test tank for the shop soon which has me thinking about it. For flat but joints my beat idea so far is either a piece of flat bar with a slot/groove milled into it. Or a 'U' extrusion with the ends welded shut to...
