Re: Gearing up - Way too many questions

Get as many cutting devices as you can (as time goes by, you will). It's nice to have options.

Thought yours might be a Lincoln Viking; had to take mine back for the same reason. My LWS said they're getting a lot of them back.

Re: SS - Tig and backer material question

By adding chamfers you are opening the backside to oxygen and sugaring can occur. It should be purged with argon. Is the a structural weld? If not you should be alright. Just move a little faster so you do not over heat the weld.

If you use steel for a backing block it is very likely you'll weld your work to the steel blocks.

Re: Digitizing a welding waveform

I'm studying it to determine what the "baseline" looks like, so while it maintains an arc. Also, we're attempting to measure what a "good" welding waveform looks like, so that we can optimize the waveforms to give a new outlook on how math can predict what is going wrong with a ...

Re: Whats the deal over at Welding Web?

Here's hoping we don't attract too many from WW. They have theirs and we have ours, is what I've heard. Probably not true. There are a lot of people on this board and in this thread who frequent both sites. I think its just a matter of most have been more active on WW than here. Gotta get rid of th...

Unless you're doing stainless or aluminum, but you are right. Two bottles are necessary.

I've seen mine toss the cut piece across the shop at a velocity that would do serious harm! Found I had a missing tooth on the blade.

Re: first welding project

most home compressors output air out of the tank so hot that it carries water straight through the water filter, condenses in the lines and then goes through your tools or into your paint. the simple way around that is to cool it down. its easier to get rid of the heat coming out of the compressor ...

Re: Pulse vs. Pedal

I think you're fighting your fit-up, more than running a bead. Advanced welders have no problem with gaps. For the beginner, they're just another headache to over come. Your pedal is your friend when it comes to gaps. I would like to see your joint before you start welding. How are you cutting your ...
