Re: Pulse vs. Pedal

Your welds are looking better!!! Don't blame the steel, it just takes practice. I love your persistence!

Re: Grinding Tungsten

CJ,
I don't have 400 bucks to spend on one, plus, I used one and if you dip your tungsten and have a big glob on it, it's impossible to get it in the hole of the tungsten grinder.
I like what I have. When I get as good as you maybe I'll find the 400 bucks! :D

Grinding Tungsten

A while back someone posted a source for a six inch diamond grinding wheel as shown below. I tried to buy one, but it was an un-secure site. Since then, I found one on eBay for 45 bucks. It was a 100 grit, then I used a 240 grit plate diamond grinding wheel, that I all ready had, and mounted to the ...

Re: New to tig welding

You could run a little bit more stick out since your cup is so large. Is there a gas lens in there too? I like to run less angle on my tungsten. Yours is needle-like. That make the arc come off the tungsten further up than if it were a more “blunt” angle. Welds look better. You can add less filler ...

Re: Pulse vs. Pedal

I think you need to strait weld with no pulse (with your pedal or otherwise). Just to many things on your plate to begin with. Heck, after looking at my weld and it's all flat and almost melted through, I forget I have a pedal to control my amps. There's so much to think about in a very short time! ...

Re: Pulse vs. Pedal

Alan,
Run bead after bead on a flat plate of 1/8" or thicker. Don't worry about joints yet, just practice getting a nice level and constant widths on your beads.

Just keep going, you got to put in a lot of helmet time. Looking good though. :D

Re: Arc force? On Tig?!?

I don't think the function has any effect on decent brand name machines as while showing a couple of people with Millers how to set them up for tig I went through the menus & noticed arc force set fairly high & commented as I know they only run 7018 stick - they had know idea what it did or...

Re: Need some info on a hood and lenses please.

I keep a passive hood on hand and use it every once in a while to stay in practice. Not a bad idea to keep a redundant passive around in case the autodark battery fails, or what. So, asking to find out, not to challenge your approach: why convert a passive helmet to autodark? Now he'll have both, a...

Re: New to tig welding

I'm basically new to tig welding. I've watched Jody's videos and taken note that as soon as he lights up, the puddle forms and away we go. I light up, wait, wait and wait for the puddle. I do have the machine cranked up, but still have to wait, nothing like when Jody demonstrates. WHAT am I doing o...

Re: Nova pedal potentiometer

Point gap? I never worried about it. Just took my new welder out of the box and been welding ever since.
I did get to spend about an hour welding with a Dynasty, couldn't tell any difference with my Everlast. Though, I still want one. A fine machine!

Re: Because I'm a Tungsten Dipper....

A prop is a nice tool to have, BUT, you also need to learn to weld with your cup resting or walking against the material. There will be times (round, circular, tubular) when material shape requires out of position welding and you need the skill. I like a rest for straight, tall pieces when I can't ...

I do it all the time. As long as you mean sharpening tungsten only and your not grinding aluminum and steel with the same diamond wheel.

Re: Need some “engineering” advice mid project

I agree with Coldman. If your worried about sag, put some plates inside, vertical, above each foot, connecting the I.D. to the O.D.. I would worry someone would want to rest their feet on it and melt their shoes. It looks contemporary and I like it!

BTW....what are you going to use to seal it?

Re: Jumbo Gas lens versus Medium gas lens dillema!

Put your money in 3/32 collets the rest you will only use 10% of the time. Maybe 1/8" if you have a bigger machine.
