Re: After Market Torch with switch for Lincoln SW Tig 200
A 17 will get hot with high amps and prolonged duty. But, it’s far more manageable than a 26. If you want the best of both worlds, a water-cooled 20 is a treat. You’ll need a water cooler, but it makes life simply pleasurable. A 26 torch cable and torch are like having a Stick stinger in your hand ...

Geez, that guy is a hoot. Wondered how long it would take him to realize he wanted to climb it... I pictured that horizontal mill yanking that pan out of the vise and flinging it across his shop, taking out his camera and putting a hole in the window :D He shuold have just bolted it down to a plate...

This Video Made Me Cringe
His first time to tig weld cast aluminum. I like Brian, he does things most wouldn't try, and loves LARGE machines.
The lathe behind him weighs 30 tons!
CJ, you'll love this!

Richard,
Nice looking saw. Did you get the portable so you can take out on jobs? Or not enough space in the shop?

Re: TIG welding an oil pan
I've never seen issues with carbon steel soaking up contaminants. That's usually something you find in cast parts. You are aware carbon steel is porous, right? An oil pan will soak up oil, road grime and other “weld contaminating” impurities irrespective of it being cast, forged, billet or hydro fo...

This first set of bins I built 35 years ago, and recently covered the old siding plywood with Formica and labeled them. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190120/5a2d14c0aec26333b1acce95f7b84a14.jpg The second set was an expansion from the first bins done about 15 years ago. https://uploads.tapatalk...

Well it’s all done. Finished building the Swag Off Finger Brake, then made a ram extension for this brake, installed knobs to hold brake in press, with set screws to adjust the position fore and aft. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190119/26356ff29542081c7aedabe1b3c14d70.jpg https://uploads.tapat...

Re: Insulation carpet or not
I don't think you need to worry about insulating yourself from shock. I sit on a steel stool that sits on concrete never worry about shock. Heck, when I began to stick weld, at 14, I welded barefooted!! Never got shocked.
Though I do have an occasional tick in my shoulder.

Re: What Plasma Cutter?
I don't have a plasma, but it was my impression thru reading this forum (and others) that Miller was not considered a good buy, as Jim Colt has explained the cost of ownership doesn't end with the purchase, however if your not doing production work then perhaps the picture is a bit different. You p...

You should cut holes in that rack to drop your extensions into! Will keep them from tumbling off and breaking your foot You do nice work out there TD. Looks like your hand has healed up well enough to allow you to keep after it? Thanks! The extensions are held there by the rare earth magnets inside...

Where did you buy the ball bearings with a screw/nut attached to them? Here’s a link to those “ball rollers”. https://www.mcmaster.com/ball-rollers The latest upgrades to the 20 ton press. Installed the winch, and cables, also notice the jack handle has a home and is held in place by rare earth mag...

It will do a 3" wide buy 3/8" thick. (I've seen the Swag Off videos) and YES I believe everything on the internet.cj737 wrote:Those are nice upgrades. But, I doubt seriously whether a 20 ton jack will bend 3/8” steel. Might want to upgrade to a 50 ton jack.
