Re: Cut/Etch Difficulty

don't know Oscar. I've tried al wheel brighteners and maybe the oven cleaner from wallyworld has something missing or different than E Z off brand. OR, more than likely I'm not patient enough for the stuff to work.

Oscar, the navy jelly works on steel, what do you use on aluminum? I've tried all kinds of wheel cleaners and oven cleaner from wally world...fail.

Re: Hello, Safety Guy needing advice.

whiskers from the welding process sounds like the issue. maybe getting the welders to pay more attention to the gun position prior to arc initiation and termination. I don't have any idea about what type of gloves will aid in protection.

you can hold hands with your significant other and walk in the rain. you can dance in the rain. but I bet a sawbuck, if you weld in the rain with wet gloves, that will get your putter to flutter.

I looked at one of them....once. Sounds like your machine is loosing power to the feed system when you pull the trigger.
just seems that machine isn't a multi tasker ... can't feed and weld at the same time.

Re: Engine welder as house backup generator

can use the samller units for a while depending on the length of time of use and how big a demand is on the unit. IF a refrigerator is on constantly , that will take away from the available power (does the light stay on all the time?) A water pump will take quite a bit of power for start up and then...

Re: Welding hood question

even though it is "auto darkening" there should be adjustments that work for YOU. You will have to play with those adjustments to suit. Also, some helmets work after a lot of sunlight for recharging as tweake stated and some have a battery. I am not familiar with your helmet, but I do have...

Yup. Just like Oscar and Tweake stated....twist things up and run them full tilt and see if the breaker will keep things lit. My wife is after me asking "Honey, why is our electric bill so much higher since you're welding again?"

Don't forget, Bear....the brazed material will melt or go away before the cast does. Do like I do,,,have your grandson help..mine isn't quite tough enough to break something like that and IF it does break, HE did it.

Re: I need opinions on a repair...

Hi Bear,,,that original job looks to me like it was O/A brazed. I wouldn't know what that material would do when stress is applied to get the right angle and twist to it. You might lucky and it would break at the original area and you could clean up the goober and start over. I'm not sure if your ro...

I have absolutely no problem with someone using what they have been using for quite a while. I have to use the space that is available to me at the moment and needed something with a small foot print. It's all good. By the way, is that a shadow of fred flintstone in the background that I see? LOL. S...

Re: Still holding out on the inverters, transformers always

One1,,,I was away from the transformer welders for quite a while chasing other ideas. I kind of look at the inverters like the way computers came into the world. Did I have computers in school? No. Did I have lots of real horsepower? Yepp. Am I open to change? Reluctantly, yes. I do not give my new ...

I really like the idea but I would wonder what the door would sound like when opening and closing. It is the think sheet metal that they use in the movies to make thunder. Would some diagonal braces eleviate that sound problem?

Welding at home is always good. Everything you need is right there. BUT, there is always that one time when you need a portable,,a small portable that will operate on 110/220. Just saying for a friend.

A few years ago I could do that fine welding, BUT, since I had my butt run over by a truck I have a few issues. HOWEVER, I am trying to overcome them. I have a few pennies that I can practice on IF I can get my grip back and stop this damn shaking.

Like I said, I wasn't sure how small, but meant short, the tig pen would let you go. I suppose a pin vise with a hollow tube would be excellent with several sized collets. The tacking the remants together would also get you good practice at fine welding, which I'd have to do during an earthquake to ...

Richard has a pin vise there. They come in various options and sizes and some come with different size changeable collets. Going for a ride tomorrow to investigate a hobby shop for one. Also, don't know how small it will go, but would a tig pen work?
