Re: Learned this one from Jody

great looking job. I have just one question. I've tried the al/brz rods on a practice repair of old farm equipment and found that I had one heck of a job making the arc stabilize. Did you find it the same or did it light right up for you?

Re: aluminum tig

The heat might have chased back thru the head and weakened the hose under the handle or the fitting may have come loose. When you do the soapy water test, pull the handle back off the torch head and investigate there also. Keep us posted, please.

There used to be a guy on tv (when I had a test pattern and one channel) that when things clicked just right said..."I'll be a blue nosed gopher".
That is a great idea. Thank you for sharing.

Re: CROOKED BEADS AND WHY CAN'T I SEE ANYTHING ?

I was suffering from back light and lots of reflection..SO, I tried to hold a shop rag onto the top edge of the shield with heavy duty paper clips. That kind of sorta helped but holy smokes it got warm in there and every once in a while one of those clips would spring loose ... :o ... never knew I w...

Really nice Tweak. Some day I want to get my hands on those design engineers and break their sharpened pencils in half and give them a crayon to draw with and they might understand about clearances to work on things.

hello Bear....IF ya do a search for micro tig torches, you will get a chance to look over quite a few torches. I'm not sure how small you want to go, but you will most likely find that they are like bikinis....the smaller they are the more expensive they would be. Have fun and let us know how you ma...

hello raticus,,,the pics are not coming thru. Got to be the water from the Monongahela getting in the way. I'm over here by the Susquehanna and it's causing problems with pics. That's all I got to blame...with the exception of a tight fitting pink dress. Resend the pics, WE want to see too.

make sure that you're getting REAL gasoline to the system. I recently had a small generator, which I had running 3 weeks earlier, that I wanted to use on a project. Got it out the day before to start it and wouldn't start. Discovered that the "fine" gasoline had accumulated lots of "m...

THANKS A BUNCH,,,Chips...the check bounced and this pink dress is really gaining attention in jail. I found that the flex pipe on the muffler will work for a bit but it too will give up from vibration. Almost like that job Coldman was working on with the pram exhaust from the Cat engine. Some...

watch it close Chips. I just had to weld the muffler on my mower. I was mowing along and things got pretty loud, looked back and there it was ...DOL ... dead on lawn. the carbon inside also posed somewhat of a problem and the existing metal went PFFFFTT in a hurry. Good luck, and when you get done t...

Hi Newbie and welcome. I did read where you thought the wire speed control is working backwards - is the wire speed noticeable at each extreme of the control for you to tell if it is working backwards? One thing for sure is Never say Never. Also, when I started my journey, I started on heavier mater...

Hi Richard, I have had a few shots are welding a nut over some protrusion and gotten the broken studs out. The way everything is going lately, I almost need a snorkel to get hold of the broken studs. Talk about strange happenings. I had some pipe positioners I wanted to clean up and sell, and sure enough broken studs. The first one, drilled hole as close to center as I could get and used a small chisel against the protruding edge,,out it comes. The second one I ended up drilling several times as...

Re: What kind of drill bit will drill through an Allen head

On broken studs, I've always started out as small as possible, then worked up to a bigger left hand drill bit with the thought that IF the bit took hold it would back out the broken stud as it was still drilling a hole. With the allen head bolts, which are usually pretty hard, I have used left hande...
