Re: Welding used gas tank
Pour a cup of vinegar & half a box of baking soda in the tank, in a minute it'll be full of co2, put cap on loosely & rotate tank so liquid is not where you wanna weld. Rinse out the tank when you're done, , , , i thought rick was kidding when he said "voodoo trick", apparently no...

why not see the local repair shop for advice? i don't know where you are but over here a repair like that is not allowed for DIY'ers. its restricted to certed welders only and they have paperwork to go with it. one of issues afaik is type of steel used and heat treatment used. certainly with late mo...

see how he had the bungs in the tank. big mistake.
simply removing the bungs drops the explosive factor by a lot.

I would add this thought. Of course we all dream of becoming independent from our employers and the carrot of opening one's business is always in front of our eyes. If you have never been in business for yourself you may find that it is much more difficult than you could have imagined, it really re...

always pays to test the market.
i ran into a problem myself many years ago. plenty of people wanting me to make a product but when it came time to open the wallet they upped and disappeared. need to test if the market is full of hot air or actually has customers willing to pay.

I wouldn't be competing against my employer. We specialize in hydraulic doors for hangar bays and large commercial and agriculture buildings. I have to turn down a lot of customers that want small jobs done because that's not what we are geared for. If I were to start a company, I would be focused ...

picked up some new rods the other day. managed to find some 7018 in a small pack, but could not find 6010 but did find some 6011 in a 5kg pack which was the smallest they had and last packet to. tried them out today for the first time ever. first impressions of the 7018 is this is easy to run. resta...

Re: new to welding
have a look at a multi process machine.
don't forget stick welding. it may be a little old fashion but its a good way to learn and comes in handy.
you can get the rods in places where you can't get a mig into.

Re: Line Power
Is the only answer to simply stop welding? Your problems might be twofold. The voltage may be dropping which could cause the machine to trip out.. Although on a modern inverter machine I don't really expect that too much as it's de-coupled the input so much from the output that pretty much 'anythin...

Re: Options On Mig Nozzle?
yes you can, but that depends on what mig gun you have and if you already have the narrow nozzle.
work out what mig gun you have and search around for nozzles for it.
other options can be to use stick or using self shielded mig wire (especially if you can leave off the nozzle).

i'm another newbie. one simple thing i have been doing is to put the joints into the vice and break them. you can where it didn't fuse very well. you want to clean all the mill scale off and don't forget your ground point. it helps to have a good ground going through shiny metal. it makes things so ...

i'm only a beginner myself so i can't really help much at all. hopefully someone else will pitch in. just check in the manual or inside where the wire goes, if there is a link for swapping polarity. make sure you clean the steel well, grind it off until its shiny steel, especially the earth connecti...

Re: Help with new machine
it pays to post what machine you have. so we can see what specs the machine has.
also what wire are you using?
a lot of those cheap ones have fixed wires so you can't get polarity mixed.
