Re: Alpha-TIG 200X Problems

I ordered a whole new torch with gas line/dinse connector from a different source, hopefully this one will last. Good move Ewalk! I have one of the Nova torches, a #26, that came with my Everlast i-Tig 201. It's one of the newer style 26 torches, so it looks like a CK Worldwide. It stops at looks t...

Re: Plasma Cutter vs Cold Saw

Ah sorry guys, I’ve gone against the pack, the bandsaw was just too big for me to keep anywhere, I’ve decided on this cold saw I don't think it was a bad choice myself, so not against my pack... I think there's a place for both of them, and a cold saw is pretty darn useful for weldments, IMO....

I vote to keep political discussions/"warnings" out of this forum entirely. As evidenced from other other forums, they lead to nowhere. I actually agree, and would appreciate you staying on topic. Your post is leaning off topic and I was responding to it. I don't care what degrees you hav...

Re: Thin disc loose on grinder, also need general info

I've seen this problem, but a different nut resolved it. The arbor has that section raised, one thing you could try to putting a washer under the disc to raise it up above that section, then tighten the nut down. Your other option is to get the threaded hub cut-off wheels. Or yet another option, get...

This ^^^^ works on my Milwaukee and also on a Metabo with a non-tool-free nut.

You can at least see how it would contact by flipping it around. Not sure what type of nut you have, so not even sure you can do that... ;)

I haven’t ever applied for any job that didn’t ask for, or require proof of that or the equivalent. I will just point out that I'm not a professional welder, but I am pretty good at what I do, programming computers. I never had a hard time finding work, despite the fact that I studied music in coll...

sbaker, I agree with all your points, and don't think there is a very high chance of it arcing the bottle, that's dependent on the pedal being pressed. Primarily the hangers on the bottle will be used for storage when the welder is not in use. When it is in use the torch will be in my holder on my t...

Then practice cutting beveled edges. This ^^^^^^ I always felt I could cut a bevel with a torch, but every time it came down to it I never had the confidence do so when I needed it. For me it was certainly something when I practiced it, it gave me the confidence that I can feel comfortable when I n...

Well if you have never laid eyes Upon A Mill or a lathe, it's possible I might be able to answer some basic questions. :D. I'm No Authority on Machining but I've done enough of it to be dangerous. Seems to me that most welders are pretty decent fabricators and often a mill and lathe are required fo...

Re: Tig filler quality variation between brands?

"sometimes" people feel that since they paid more--it's better. For me, price is not the only consideration. If I'm forced to buy 10 lbs. or even <gasp> 50 lbs. of filler, I'm unlikely to buy it unless I feel I'm going to be using it a lot. Otherwise 2-3 lbs. is a decent amount. Harris se...

Worse luck than me...the fires are burning all over, this is about 20 minutes from me up by Boulder Creek. Is a fairly old Chevy truck and 15,000 lb. crane, hydraulics are toast and looks like he lost 3 tires, one front and 2 rear on the passenger side. You can see the fire smoldering in the backgro...

Re: 21" dia blade

A 16" carbide tipped blade is around $450 Takes quite a machine to spin a 16" blade. I have a Yates-American G-89 table saw, it can spin an 18" blade, but Yates-American only recommended a 16" blade on it due to the speed of the 5HP direct drive 3600 rpm motor. I have a bunch of...

Re: Strong Hand Tools Cylinder Hanger

All very reasonable. We do put the ground clamp on the table, and we use a magnetic holder too, but I don't trust that it's insulated from the table. Magnets are conductive after all. I'm used to worrying about 300 to 550V from the tube amps I've built, not 20 or 30, so my perspective is likely off...

Re: Strong Hand Tools Cylinder Hanger

You obviously realized I meant hanging, not handing. I have been hanging the torches on a holder on the table, so if anyone ever stepped on the pedal by accident, it could only arc to the holder/table, which is attached to the ground clamp. Not sure it would even do that though, given the tungsten ...

Re: Strong Hand Tools Cylinder Hanger

Is that considered a safe practice? Handing the torch on a pressurized metal cylinder. I don't see why not. I don't use it there, just hang it there to store. I would think a bigger problem is if a tank is located on your welding cart and is not insulated from the welder, or worse if the tank is at...

It certainly is, but I need to get the rear lifted up so I can get the steering hydraulic off, then I'll need to take it apart and remove the piston and make another one, probably out of 4140HT/4130/HT, will need to see what I have...but before that I need to get this other lift tomorr...

Has anyone here ever observed even a subtle but noticeable difference between two brands of the same spec wire? Would some ER70s2 for example wet in a little better and leave a smoother more consistent bead than some other ER70s2? I'm curious what others have experienced. I try to stick with name b...

I looked at it carefully again, and you're right, there is some slight discoloration, but I wouldn't go so far as saying that it is brass-plated. I don't know what it is, it could be anti-seize for all I know. I believe you that it's brass, the other side does look like it. I was just saying...my g...

Do you mean brass-plated copper? If so, then no. I think it's just the cheap camera-phone playing tricks on your eyes. It's easy to verify if it's brass, a few scrapes will tell you. And yes, it's solid brass. There's some type of plating crud in the threads. I take your word on it, my eyes are pla...
