Wait a second...I thought spray-MIG was the craze?

It was my impression if you don't spray-MIG you're not very high on the food chain? :?

Standing structures are so overrated.

Strong Hand Tools Cylinder Hanger

This is similar to the Hel-Hooks, it's a set of hangers that attaches to the top of the gas cylinder, but it offers a couple advantages over the Hel-Hooks. This version has 4 hooks on it, similar to the Hel-Hooks, but it also has 2 torch hangers, so you can hang 2 torches or a torch and a slag hamme...

I know it sounds crazy, but Alan is the 1st person to catch the meaning of my email address right out of the chute. Usually takes a couple of times and some explaining. Well done!! Hi Folks, I call myself a hobby welder, though as a retired mechanic and shop owner I've done some welding over the years. Managed to stick stuff together well enough, and pretty good with a grinder. Most of my fun these days is with my VW "racecar". And that's where my current welding fr...

Not for nothing but your 6010 beads look similar to mine. Now I'm not the only one with that counterfeit 6010 rod. :P

Looks like a bad weld to me, not a crack, but what do I know...

I recommend grinding out the weld so you can see exactly what is going on there. ;)

Re: New Table

I looked at certiflat quite a bit, and came really close to buying a few of their smaller ones. Ultimately decided against it because I had seen a YT video where the holes were deforming with even moderate clamping pressure due to the top being so thin (3/16" I think). Certiflat also used to s...

Re: New Table

That is a nice table, I'll need to go the cheaper route with a certiflat when I do get one. Stronghand makes some nice stuff. I recently got their version of the Hel-Hooks for my argon tank, they have 4 hooks plus 2 torch-holders/t-head-holder and a glove clamp. I also have a pair of their mig plier...

Re: What do your welding area/shops look like?

Oscar, is that a 3-phase electric motor, and if it is, what's it for and can you run it at your home shop? He's going to use it for a Rotary Phase Converter, which is basically a bunch of capacitors that will start the 3 phase motor on single phase electricity. Once it is running, the motor provide...

Hey Alan,,,that Tensileweld stuff...IS it the same thing as 312 and the mfg is using a fancy name or is it something special? I've been looking around and really can't decipher anything special. Just asking out of curiosity because I believe I have some 312 taking a nap in the shop. Yes, AFAIK, it'...

Re: Welding stainless nut to mild tube, how much radius for

You really don’t need much weld to keep the nut connected. Personally, I just put tacks on 3 sides with a dab of 309 or 312. There’s not that much stress in that application as the nut flange is what prevents the bolt from pulling through. I do coat the bolt with antisieze, then thread it into the ...

Cool Stuff Alan. Is your new shop forklift accessible? Funny you mention that...I'm actually looking at getting a 2nd rough terrain forklift as I type...the reason is the driveway is really steep, like so steep I don't know if I could pull my trailer up with the flatbed. I do have access to the bas...

Welding stainless nut to mild tube, how much radius for lip?

I have some stainless nuts which are 1/4-20, and the outside of the flats are .430". The way I was thinking about it was I have .180" difference. Originally I was planning to drill 5/16" holes, providing 1/16" which would give me about .032" on each side if I center it. This...

I'm sort of confused. I was replying to the OP's comment with my experience, nothing more. The OP was asking about knobs vs controls. My Everlast is a knobs machine as-is my Primeweld. If you want to tell the OP about your experience, that's great, but posting to me about how you had a negative exp...

Re: Primeweld Tig 225 welding cart

For that cross brace weld, the radius of the tube is your challenge. The square cut intersecting makes a wider gap in that condition. Light up on the radius side, add filler on that side, and weave across, add filler both sides, weave back. OR, upsize your filler and then problem is solved. Crap, I...

Re: How hard to use is a 26 torch?

I don’t understand all the fuss about a 26. I use one whenever I weld above 200 amps for an extended period of time and I never burn my hands, the torch doesn’t melt, nor does the cable. I use a 17 constantly up to 180 amps and have the exact same torch for over 3 years without incident. Hear hear,...
