Re: Cast aluminum and what filler rods to use?

I'm not a tig guru, so I want to preface that. There are a couple things to consider. 4043 has silicon in it. 4643 also has silicon, but it has a small amount of magnesium, and my understanding is this makes it a tad stronger than 4043, and many people like to use this. 5356 has magnesium in it. Thi...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I don't think you're in quite the minority that you think you are. If two welding rods are mentioned in a youtube video, which two are they? 7018 and 6010. ... It's all marketing. And I really don't believe you are in a minority. You wanting to run 6010 on your Primeweld is the norm, not the except...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Agreed. And my only point was that there are A LOT of people with machines these days that are not capable of running 6010. So if a scammer suddenly came out with a magic stick of 6010 (actually a falsely labeled 6011 or other) that could run well on those machines, it wold sell quickly, and at a p...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I can think of a reason why a vendor might counterfeit 6010: Ok, I'm willing to accept that, just don't think there's a lot of money in selling stick rod to be honest. I don't think there are too many people welding with stick these days and the ones that are, are certainly in the minority. The maj...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Come on guys - it used to be way more friendly here I completely agree, it is why I have stayed here, but recently I have to question that. I'm all for friendly discussions, but there seems to be someone here who thinks they're the authority on welding of all types. I think it's a good time to step...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

For everyone's edification. :) I've checked with a friend that does a lot of stick welding. He told me that E7018/E7014/E6013 would all have a very tight ripple pattern and that my pic of the E6010 beads is clearly E6010. Another point I didn't mention here but mentioned to him was that when I pulle...

Thanks for the link. I just ordered some to eliminate all doubt and to eliminate the "stretch". Well thank G*D for that! The world will be a better place when we get Judge Judy's, err...I mean Judge Oscar's certification if it's really E6010 or not. My recommendation, spend some tim...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I could very well be wrong, but I'm just going by the pic you posted. I'm questioning the rod and its manufacturer, not the machine at this point. I know some 6010 had red flux, and the reason I think they're using that to pass it off as 6010 is that the bead looks nothing like any 6010 bead I've r...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Sorry, but that is not 6010 rod. I'm not saying that's not what it's labeled, or what the ad said you bought, but the actual rod composition/type. Not 6010. That looks like a 7018/7014/6013 variant that is being sold-off as 6010. Show a pic before you removed the slag please. You're absolutely wron...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

...and the infamous 6010 test that other people have purported to work flawlessly? Actually runs it pretty good, despite your skepticism... :) The rear fillet weld is over the top of slag, so there's a couple inclusions, or I could have long arc'd it, but the front beads are pretty clean and the 60...

Re: Plasma Cutter vs Cold Saw

The sound level of the cold saws is the primary reason why I have never considered one. I have terrible tinnitus and find that even with high attenuation ear protection being around loud tools is tiring. I think it has something to do with these cheap single phase motors, they're just noisy...even ...

Re: Plasma Cutter vs Cold Saw

Does that one use straight blades? The DeWalt does have straight blades, they are pretty thin so don't last very long like most all porta-potty planers. My Yates American 24" has straight blades also, but the larger planers are typically not piercing loud like my DeWalt, which is on the ear pi...

Re: Plasma Cutter vs Cold Saw

What's a porta-potty planer Alan? My Delta isn't great, but I haven't resorted to name calling. A porta-potty is just a portable planer, any 12"-13" planer. I have a Yates-American 24" B-44 planer that I'll be putting into service when I get the new shop setup, but the porta-potty is...

Good luck! Let us know how you like it I will certainly update, but I know already that they are REALLY loud, and I haven't even plugged it in. Re: Does anyone selll pre-bent square stock?

Alan - You don't need to cut triangles, just kerfs on the outside of the radius. As you bend the piece, the kerf opens. Just weld from the bottom of the kerf outward, starting with tacks. And keep it pinned to a template to prevent it from closing down while you weld. You'll be fine. Worst case? Yo...

Re: Does anyone selll pre-bent square stock?

One problem with bending square tube is that it needs to crease the inside and outside of the tube. It's doable, just seems more difficult. I think cj's method of either cutting out triangles to bend the pipe and welding the seams back together would be easier, or just do as he also suggested have i...

FWIW, I got an email from Cyberweld this morning and it seems the Synchrowave line is changing from transformer to inverter, it's not entirely clear, but the email claimed that the new Synchrowave 400 was much lighter due to the inverter technology being used, price was right around $6k on sale. ---...
