Thought id make a new thread asking about Generators.. So i was looking at getting a 250amp welder in my other thread... problem is that in Aus you need a 15amp outlet at your house to run such a unit. As getting a 15amp outlet maybe a bit tricky where i am now (waiting to get a elec t check it out...

I also do not use any type of cutting fluid when cutting the steel so do not have to clean the steel for welding and painting :mrgreen:

Beginner question - do I need to clean steel before welding with MIG? (I've heard you should with TIG) I'm talking about new steel from the metal supplier with that thin coat of protective oil. Obviously I'd need to clean rust or scale, but I wasn't sure if I need to wipe off the metal with acetone...

I braze mine. Welded is nice when it's right, but I've carried too many back to the blade shop for reweld. The welding itself is fairly easy, and the machines are fairly cheap, but learning to weld blades and anneal them after is nore of a black art than a science. As far as building that welder is...

Near farming, city or ext

Simply put you more just welding
Most farmer can weld but they do line boring but simple to do for welder
In the city most food and retail

FAB work is low pay as ever one with 120 v mig welder doing the work and or isunlicensed too

The relay looks 10 amp lite duty This one part will give out and welder will stop working The new relay is HD type and can be replace I still use the old relay but only to open and close the new relay Dave That's one bumpin' ground clamp! Update to my welder Harbor Freight 170
I just purchase my 170 work great out box (Nov 2017

But I did few improvements to extend life and function of the welding

1) Add a stronger relay
2) Add a longer ground wire 10FT
3) New ground clamp
4) Welding Cart

Time will tell how long the vulcan will last
For just few I can find Miller or Hobart that I know and trust
Today I use a HF 170 simple to repair and low cost, has been around for years under other names too
