Re: Tank Sizes for Hobbyist
I got myself an acetylene outfit, but I plan to use it with propane for the most part. I am getting acetylene mainly for flame-straightening, but I might conceivably do a small amount of welding. The propane is for cutting and general heating. I plan to keep the torch on s cart with oxygen and prop...

Re: Welding in the rain
There's no upside to welding in the rain. Water in the arc turns to hydrogen and oxygen, both undesirable contaminants. Water on hot beads causes rapid cooling and embrittlement. Standing on wet ground with wet clothes and gloves is asking for a shock. Hydrogen precipitation! Reason 1, welding with...

Re: Would You Buy a Tank Stamped 1974?
I still have no O2 tank. Some guy not far away is trying to sell one just the right size for $90. The stamp date is 1974. Would you buy a tank that old on the assumption it would pass inspection? If it passes, I can swap it, pay the fee, and still come out pretty good. If not, it's scrap. Other tha...

Re: Rectifier
Yes a choke with lot of turns is for stick welders.
But a choke (aks Reactor) with few turns with give a smoother DC .
Some old books on MIG with take about adding turns (also choke) for smoother welding.
Today if look most CV welder they will some type of choke / Reactor.
