Re: Aluminum inside corners giving me soooo much grief.
I will also say this. It happens that today I was doing some inside corners on aluminum myself. Don't underestimate the filler you are using. I typically use off-the-shelf 4043 filler rod. When things are important, I use Neptune from Rockmount. Before you search, sit down because you're going to g...

Re: Crud on my tungsten
The tungsten can survive at 50% EP and 50% EN when running a sine wave like on the older transformer machines when the tungsten is balled. Sine wave provides a more gradual ramp-up to the welding current and subsequent reduction in temperatures much like a triangle wave does for outside corner join...

Re: Aluminum inside corners giving me soooo much grief.
Also, arc wander increases the more Electrode Positive (EP) balance you dial in; conversely it decreases with the more EN balance you dial in. More EN is better, to a certain point. Above 80% is difficult because then you get pepper floaties (soot floating within the puddle), but if you can run the...

Re: Aluminum inside corners giving me soooo much grief.
This latest project was on some rectangular tube with .077 wall thickness. I had the welder set to 78 amps max on flat joints and used maybe 2/3s pedal amps for most of the welds. Any ideas? All you had to type was that last line, lol. You need WAY more amperage. It is the single most common ...

Aluminum inside corners giving me soooo much grief.
I'm trying to get some personal projects out of the way. Several of which involve some aluminum welding. I can get some decent welds on aluminum butt and lap joints. But man oh man do inside corner give me grief!! I'm using a standard cup and collect without a gas lens. I can start a puddle and jam ...

Re: Crud on my tungsten
Try the extremes on both ends of your cleaning knob. You might have an issue with it. It looks like too much heat on the tip and it wants to ball. I believe the Everest is reversed from the Miller on Balance. What you did was correct, but try is at 35, 40 and you should see a better condition. I ev...

Re: Advice on Material Selection for Aluminum Ramp
I’d go angle on both the sides and rungs. You can install the sides so the rings sit on the flats, keeping the dimensions the same for both pieces. But at 6’, even 1/4” wall will flex. Aluminum just doesn’t have the strength. Ideally, you’d make a “truss” for the sides, and then add the rungs. That...

Advice on Material Selection for Aluminum Ramp
I was thinking of building an aluminum ramp for my utility trailer. The ramp would be for loading my dirt bike(s). And I want to build it straight at about 6' or so. I want to slide it under the trailer for storage during transport. I'll build something into the trailer for the storage. I also want ...

Re: Custom Soldering Iron Tip?
Something like this might work right out of the box, it's just over an inch wide. If you want to make it yourself, #6 wire doesn't quite fit in a soldering tip, you'll have to turn it down a bit, and try to get it straight. I'd try cutting the copper plate so it has a tang sticking out of it and fa...

Custom Soldering Iron Tip?
Hi, I need to make a soldering iron tip that is shaped like a chisel. I.e. like a normal wood chisel. Maybe 1"-1.5" wide yet thinner than a wood chisel, but still beveled on one side. I'll be using it to square-off the knobbies on my dirt bike tires after they have worn and rounded off. My...
