Re: SS - Tig and backer material question
Just wanted to post a thanks for the thoughts. (and dive just a little deeper in the backer material kiddy pool) I did manage to find a little piece of alum angle and did a quick test weld on a little scrap of mystery stainless. The setup is a half-lap corner (a BS tech term that?!) ... meaning the...

Re: Gas Supply Hose Some Sort of Greenish Oily Residue Norma
Could be some excess lube the guy that made up the hose put on the barbed end of the fitting to get it to slide up into hose before crimping the ferrule on. Does it taste soapy? Might just be green dish washing detergent.

Re: Code for pressure testing?
Thanks Poland308, do you know if that comes from an AWS code? I flipped through AWS D1.2 and could not find anything on pressure testing. I assume testing with water is better because it is in-compressible and leaks are more apparent? This is a new part that I am designing and doesn't really see hi...

Re: leather neck protection
I have been wondering this too and after looking around at various options I am going to buy a cheap leather welders apron and sacrifice it to make the pieces I need. The other option to drilling would be to attach some velcro or other hook and loop type product to the inside of your helmet with ei...

Re: What am I doing wrong?
Thanks I don't have any other pics. I'm going to work on it again later this week so I'll get more pics then. The root and fill all look good. No excessive undercut, nice even puddle, no voids. When I cut the backing strap off the toe looks fine. When I bend the root there are no cracks or voids th...

Re: FCAW-S and FCAW-G
I tried to research online and AWS D1.1 book, but no success, I cannot find the answer on my question; If a welder is certified for AWS D1.1-2015; Filler Metal: AWS A5.20, Class E71T-1/9, F6; Base Metal Spec.: ASTM A36,is he certified for both FCAW-S (self-shielded) and FCAW-G (gas shielded) proces...

Re: ASME Section IX and AWS D1.2
This post is going to have a lot of questions. 1. My company wants to start getting certified in ASME section ix specifically right now, we have military contract that also needs to be certified to aws code as well, if we buy the software that will make our own wps and pqr's, is that the same as go...

Re: Whats the deal over at Welding Web?
Well I found my way over here by searching on "what happened to welding web". Been following the situation by reading on the HEF, Tractor and Miller forums also. Had signed up on the Miller forum along time ago (at around the time I signed up for Welding Web) but couldn't remember what scr...
