Real nice look to them. Not your typical "penitentairy" type gates.

Re: A couple of simple projects to make life easier
Some great ideas. I really like the chain tensioner. The small projects can be more rewarding than the more complex.

Re: Mig elec problem? Not solenoid....
Manual doesn't seem to have a schematic. From the photos, it looks like there are some relays on the board. I would suspect one of those.

Re: Generators and welders thoughts?
You would need to know the input current drawn by the welder you are considering. Current x Voltage = Watts If the welder needs a 15 amp circuit a rough estimate would be: 15x230= 3,500 watts +/- A 5000 watt generator should handle the load but it might be stressed at the higher machine settings. Of...

Re: Fusion
Metallurgy is a complex subject. A book every welder should own is "Metals and How to Weld Them" by Lincoln Electric. Silly name but a great book covering welding/metallurgy. Not an engineering textbook, but technical enough to get a good understanding of metals and their properties.

Hit it lightly with a sanding wheel. Always a good idea.

Re: Want opinions, thinking of buying this welder..
I cannot offer any advice regarding the 2 machines you are interested in but as far as the electrical aspect, in the US we have an organization called NEMA (National electrical manufactures association) that sets standards for receptacles /plugs. I'm sure Australia has a similar organization. Ideall...

Very nice. Simple but effective. I bought a new mig welder several months ago and never realized how cumbersome the mig welding cables are.

Re: Converting table saw for steel cutting
I haven't set up the saw to test yet but it does have a variable sheave pulley to vary the speed down to about 700 RPM. It's an old Shopsmith for those of you who are into woodworking. I'd only be cutting small steel tubing and angles and was looking for a way to avoid spending $400 on a dry saw or ...

Converting table saw for steel cutting
What do you guys (and gals) think about converting a table saw for small stock steel cutting? I have an adjustable speed table saw (Shop Smith) and would use the 10" Diablo Demon ferrous blades with the miter fence and the saw dialed in to the correct RPM.

Re: best welding table for beginner
I acquired an old commercial sewing machine table with steel legs and a 1 1/2 thick butcher block top. I'm going to use some firebrick with a steel plate on top of the wood. While I'd love one of those perforated top tables, I can't justify the expense as a hobbyist.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to wait on CO2 for now. What's frustrating is the fact that I can't get a satisfactory answer from a manufacturer about their own product.

Re: Hobart 210 and CO2
Smith returned my email but never really answered my question about the difference between the two regulators. Thanks for the link Dave. I'm undecided if I'm going to invest in the CO2 option.

Hobart 210 and CO2
I recently purchased a Hobart 210 MIG machine. I wanted the option to use CO2 gas but the manual states the supplied flow regulator (made by Smith) must not be used with CO2. The manual then states to use regulator part number 212 492 for straight CO2. Contacted Hobart (Miller) who told me this is a...

Re: Idealarc 250 electric plug 101 question
The plate and manual indicate it is a single phase machine. What’s confusing is that there are 3 leads not counting ground. Not sure why there would be a neutral (white) lead. The manual only shows the 2 hot leads and ground. Check the wiring diagram inside to see what voltage it was wired for and i...

Re: Help, Running 220 to Garage From Sub-box Possible?
If you can fish a cable from your basement to your garage without going outside the cheapest way out is to use Romex NM-B 6/3 cable. That’s 6 gauge / 3 conductor (4 counting the ground wire). Install a GE sub panel (load center) in the garage. 100 amp 12 circuit is fine. The sub panel does not need ...
