Re: Fisher Chain Vise Repair

Maybe consider cutting the jaws back to clean metal fill minor imperfections with a nickel based rod pre and post heat then machine new jaws to go over what's left with countersunk Allen's those are cool post vises but weren't meant to be pounded on like a regular post vise that has a large pivot b...

Fisher Chain Vise Repair

Hey, I've been doing some work for a guy who is losing his storage space. He has been selling off a lot of stuff, and he asked me to do some repair work on this Fisher chain vise. As you will (hopefully) see in the pictures, the jaws have some damage. It looks to me like someone has already had a go...

Re: Bubbles/air in silicon bronze TIG braze?

Thank you for your attempts to help with this... I think I may have found the problem... I still dip my tungsten, and sometimes that means pops and spits, etc... So... gas lenses are 'used up' and have a lifespan. The problem apparently started after I changed out a collet set, and now... replacing ...

Re: Bubbles/air in silicon bronze TIG braze?

I still do dip my tungsten more than I'd like, and I change them out... a lot... as soon as I dip them. In this example I'm using 1/8 mild steel, sanded to clean metal on both sides. I was using a #8 cup, and a #8 pyrex cup to see if that helped... both with a new gas lens. I feel like I'm doing all...

Re: Bubbles/air in silicon bronze TIG braze?

Sorry... I should add that I'm using 1/16 2% lanthanated tungsten and pure argon, around 15 cfh.

Newbie info

Hi all, I've been watching and learning welding videos since anyone started making them. I taught myself to weld first with oxy gas, then mig (110 miller 130xp) and then TIG (miller Econo TIG). At first I just welded for fun. Then... about 8 years ago I walked away from a lifetime in retail, took a ...

Bubbles/air in silicon bronze TIG braze?

Hi, I'm trying to make a living out of my garage and basement, selling welded Mjolnir and home decor online and at craft shows. I taught myself how to weld, so...you know... I don't really know how to weld. My welds are looking better and better, however... My TIG brazing with silicon bronze ends up...
