Re: Any idea what this is?
Killed a bandsaw blade cutting a part but think I figured it out. Can't tell 100% what it is, but I'm willing to bet it's splintered tungsten in the seam weld. Thought we were getting furnace welded stuff but found one piece in a bundle of 61 lengths stamped ERW A53-A. Went back ans looked at the ga...

Re: Any idea what this is?
So, it has happened 3 more times. Changed out the spool after one, and all was well until it happened twice on the same weld today, however this one was a bit more interesting. One of the spikey pieces actually had grinder marks on it from where I was grinding away the hot dip galv and bevelin...

I keep getting ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT errors on https:// in chrome. Only lets me on the site in http:. I don't think they're changing things, the forum software is just broken. Re: everlast 250ex vs htp 221
The Everlast isn't too bad. Bought mine specifically for the 200A duty cycle. It's not as great as my old Dynasty, but I strangely like it more. Maybe I got lucky with mine, but it still works just fine despite two drops from 3'. Runs stick damn good under 150A off a generator too. Never used one of...

Re: Propane forge ideas ?
Only experienced with induction and resistance element ones, but have always found square and rectangle shaped ones the easiest over cylindrical. So much easier to just replace sections of fire brick with flat walls, especially if you wind up having a decent amount of borax or boric acid in there. E...

Re: Tig Welding Anodized Aluminum
firstly don't weld Anodized Aluminum. if you have to, from what i understand look for one of the old rigs that has constant HF on it. :?: Why do you not suggest welding anodized ally, Tweake? It’s rather commonplace here in the States for marine applications and done all the time. And his 280DX is ...

A one off phenomenon  Thats what I'm hoping for. Any idea what this is?
Happened a few weeks ago and I still have not been able to find anything in researching. Old stock 1-5/8"OD SCH40 galvanized made in the UAE that I pulled from the off-cuts bin, with galvanize ground away from weld area except for the inside of the tube which I couldn't get to. 0.045 ER70S-6, 2...

Re: Air Torch for Everlast 250EX
be careful if you use that video Demented put up... you'll burn out your expensive torch if something were to happen. if its the Everalast torch go for it but i never recommend doing that with a CK torch just wait for cooler or get an air cooled torch they are cheap enough. Same goes for a proper w...

Wish I knew about that before I bought my CK-17 Flex. Works darn well. Been maxed out on my 250EX with the stock torch and a 300lph pump from a pet store and no issues.

Re: When should i reverse polarity? DC+ to DC-
xxx0 means its mostly cellulose, but they put a lot of other chemicals in there to which gives it other attributes. its the same with EVERY class of rod. which is why one manufacture has 4 different 7018. 6013 is a good example, i have some 6013RC which is rutile and cellulose. theres at least 4 su...

Re: Welding ⅛ in round bar to 1/16 plate preferably using st
It can definitely be welded to the plate. Just gotta focus more of the heat on the round bar. I have some .065 brackets welded to .125 wall tube, and .25 rod to the .125 tube at work that I have my angle grinder and accessories. There's probably better ways, but I like to still set the machine for t...

Re: When should i reverse polarity? DC+ to DC-
There are many other instances where DC- on 7018 or 6011 are beneficial. If 7018 and 6011 rod were never intended to be used in DC-, they'd be XXX0, XXX3, XXX5, XXX6 series rods. well thats not true. the label is determined by the rods chemical specs, not what polarity it runs. and the point i made...

Re: When should i reverse polarity? DC+ to DC-
Tweake is spot on, you'll never get the correct penetration. You're right we do have diff codes here in the USA but im talking about running the rod so you get the correct penetration and bead appearance, The rod doesn't care what country its in.... DCEN is absolute terrible for 6010 & 7018 loo...

Thanks Dave- maybe i shouldn't of used the words "cant" i should of wrote "shouldn't" anything can be done. I stand by my post with many years of stick welding dating back to 1990. You can run anything you want on DCEN doesn't mean its correct. I'm don't want to get into a pissi...

Re: Will this 100 Amp welder suit my needs?
I don't think you'll get enough out of your duty cycle to weld 3mm with a 100amp gas less welder Small bits at a time. 20% duty cycle at 100A. For just hobby stuff it would work, but not ideal. While you're looking up respirators, check out 3M 2297 filters. They're rated for galvanize fumes as well...

You got that right Tweake ! buy the correct rod and run it in the correct polarity and you never have to worry. I wasn't trying to come off rough that wasn't my intention but bad advice could give people bad habits forever. You are spot on that just because they can run a DC+ rod in DC- they think ...

Um, what?WeldingJunkie wrote:i mean that's part of it but 7018 and 6010 run in only DCEP.
I've run it DCEP, DCEN, and AC. Lincoln alone makes 4 or 5 different styles of 7018 for various polarities and such.
