Re: Help debug first TIG attempt
for a Gas lens: ½ to 1-½ cup diameters for the tungsten stickout, so when you factor in arc length, you end up no more than about 2 cup diameters from the work piece. OK I will use this rule and give it a try tomorrow, thanks for the clarification. I have used today the stickout = cup diameter and ...

Re: Help debug first TIG attempt
But I'd like to know where you got the "3x the diameter as stickout" that you mentioned. I don't know for sure how to dial the stickout, but the 3x tungsten diameter comes from the CK Worldwide "Technical Specifications for TIG Welding" ( http://www.ckworldwide.com/technical_spe...

Help debug first TIG attempt
After reading the excellent feedback above, I think excessive torch angle was one of my MANY problems, so tried to pay attention to it this morning. Lowered the balance to 65% and raised the frequency to 100Hz. Went back to the 1/16" filler, as I can't seem to melt the 3/32" filler fast en...

Re: Help debug first TIG attempt
Guys, thank you! Lots of useful feedback. Once done with the turkey, I'll see if I can sneak into the garage and try some of the changes and will report back.

Help debug first TIG attempt
Hello, I am total noob in TIG, having just purchased my first TIG welder and finished a cart. Struggling with laying beads. Setup: * HTP Invertig at 150A, frequency 60Hz, balance 75% * Argon 14cfh * CK20 water cooled torch, size 7 cup, gas lens, 3/32" lanthanated electrode, stickout 0.31" ...

Welding cart for small space — need suggestions
I like the cabinet at the bottom — i still haven’t figured out where to store my helmets. Will not have room on the cart itself. But will add a nice handle like you have, and figure out the cable management.

Re: How to choose stainless steel and filler
Thanks for the filler advice, much appreciated.
Should we choose thicker material for the top? 3/16 or even 1/4”? One would think that gets expensive quickly, but we will do what needs to be done.

How to choose stainless steel and filler
I am helping a friend build a fire pit for his backyard here in Arizona. Essentially a 120x22” box 12” high made of 1/8 inch thick stainless steel sheets that will be supported inside by a mild steel frame made of 1 or 1-1/2 inch angle iron. There will be a 96x8” opening on top. My friend asked me t...

Re: Welding cart for small space — need suggestions
Looking at your equipment, and the size of your tanks, I think I would rotate the machines 90* and sit 2 side-by-side. That's right, I started with this design and went back to it after your post. Problem is I'd like to keep the foot-print around 2x2' . Placing them side-by-side fits sidewise, but ...

Welding cart for small space — need suggestions
Hello all, weekend warrior beginner here. I have just added an HTP Invertig 221 with a cooler to my Lincoln 210MP. So now I have two tanks, two generators and a cooler, and my Harbor Freight welding cart is due for retirement. So I decided to build a new one and I need your advice. Because of my con...

Re: Can't pick a welder... Could you help?
Following with interest, as I just ordered an HTP Invertig — hoping to get it by the end of the week. Was in the same boat, for me the big decision narrowed down to Miller Synchrowave 210 vs the HTP. I thought the Miller looked very appealing on paper. In general I say buy the last tool first. Sent ...

Re: Beginner Q: one welder to do it all?
Just a quick follow-up: I pulled a trigger on a single voltage (220V) water cooled HTP Invertig 221 and extended torch. Will see how it changes my practice.

Re: Beginner Q: one welder to do it all?
I can only speak from my experiences, repairs are a no-go zone. $2200 machines that cost $1100 to repair with zero warranty are not for me :( :o  If the failure rate were 10% I would agree, however I expect the failure rate of the HTP Invertig to be significantly less than 1%. When I sold my...

Beginner Q: one welder to do it all?
The HTP seems to fit the saying “Buy the last tool first”. I like Lincoln and initially I looked at their $1500 TIG but it seems like it has limitations and the HTP with its water cooling and multiple adjustments will probably be all I ever need. Even though some people called it off brand it seems ...

Re: Beginner Q: one welder to do it all?
Okay turns out that this is not as straightforward as I thought. So most likely will keep the MIG for now and then by the HTP Tig later in the year. Does anyone know when usaweld has their sales?

Beginner Q: one welder to do it all?
I am a weekend warrior hobbyist, having taken one lesson in late 2016. Started with a Lincoln 140HD, sold it, and now I have a 210MP. Now I am getting interested in getting a TIG machine (specifically the HTP Intertig 211, water cooled 240 V) and was wondering if TIG would be enough as the only weld...
