Re: Dual filler designation?

It is my understanding that 4943 meets all the requirements for 4043 and then some. It can be used as a replacement for procedures that call for 4043. I think they used the dual rating to make people more comfortable with doing that. I would not suggest using 4043 for any procedure that requires 4943.

Re: The argon flows only when I shut the cylinder valve off

Are you doing that with no hose attached to the flowmeter? Perhaps it is tripping a max flow limiter in the regulator.
If it still does that when connected to the welder, then I would say something is wrong with the regulator.

Re: TIG welding cast iron

I would suggest Aluminum-Bronze filler and use AC current. Jody did a video on that a couple of years ago. I used his idea on a project about 18 months ago, and it worked very well.

Re: What kind of welder (person) do I need?

There is a reason that the ends are rounded. Changing it to a flat end, will require some serious changes to the vessel. At 40 inches diameter, and 45 psi, you are looking at about 28 tons of force on the endplate. All of that force will be concentrated at the point where the the endplate meets cyli...

Oscar,

I understood that you was doing it as research. I also believe that you are knowledgeable enough, to understand it could hasten the welders last day. We sometimes make sacrifices to gain knowledge.

Re: HTP Invertig 221 thermal over-load torture test.

I think the important thing to remember here, is that heat is detrimental to solid state electronics. The hotter you run an electronic device, the shorter its expected lifespan. Better heatsinks can extend durability, but they cost more money, so it becomes a tradeoff for manufacturers. The same is ...

Re: Cast Aluminum Case Repair - need a tip & trick!

You just need the correct words, and the correct sequence in which to say them.
It also helps to hold your tongue just right.
If you can't do that, then the previous advice is dead on.

Re: Everlast 210ex vs Ck worldwide mt200

I bought a 255EXT about 2.5 years ago. Was very happy with it for the first 18 months. Then it started acting up when trying to weld with AC. Called NEVERLAST for support, and got nothing but dumb excuses. They even blamed the problem on me getting the Tungsten too hot, causing high resistance. Chec...

Just let a 6 year old kid have it for a day. If it comes back in one piece, your welds are good.

I saw a youtube video today, where the guy mounted a headlamp on his helmet with velcro. Looks like a good idea. One of his commentators suggested putting velcro mounts on the sides of the helmet as well. Allows lighting for more awkward positions.

I wasn't worried too much about you Oscar. I figured you was serving hot Brisket meals to your neighbors, along with cold beer. Suprised that you only have 20 gals of gas in cans. I figured you for at least 50. Still, it was nice to see that you still have internet. Hope your relatives get through t...

Re: Tig cast iron fry pan?

Aluminum Bronze has a tensile strength of about 30-35,000 psi. That is similar to mild steel. I would not worry about it being much of a weak spot on a cast iron handle. Fixing the crack in the side might be the bigger challenge. The filler does have some 'stretch', so might not crack as it cools.

Re: Tig cast iron fry pan?

If the OP has AC as an option, I would use Aluminum Bronze for the filler. It is a lot stronger, and the AC helps with the cleaning process. I repaired the yoke on a Delta table saw using the Aluminum Bronze and AC method, as demonstrated by Jody, in one of his videos. It worked great, and consideri...

What is the temper of the sheet? 0, T3, T6? It makes a world of difference.

The better my Tig gets, the worse my Stick looks.

Nicely done on the weight rack. Chains on the rear wheels will make a big difference if you aren't using them already.
