Re: Helmet: Optrel e684

Hey Wolfgang,

Are you using a PAPR system with your Optrel Hood or old Miller Hood.

I’m actually kind of curious if you have any opinion of PAPR systems

Re: Learned this one from Jody

I'm sure VA Sawyer is already quite aware of this but maybe some readers do not know. That part, on what looks like a table saw, and they could not find a replacement for. Really good new table saws can easily cost $3,000 and up. I'm only a student of welding but I have an expensive table saw and a ...

Re: Removing zinc from hard to grind parts?

Are you saying that a PAPR can be fitted to Viking 3350? If so I was not aware that was an option. As far as giving a review of the 3350 I’m happy except one day I was being a screwball and put the grind mode on. Forgot, then several days later I sparked a generous arc and because I’m a total greenh...

Re: Removing zinc from hard to grind parts?

Yeah, I can set a fan no problem. Will obviously take it serious. Trust me when I say I want the PAPR. At the moment I’m using the Lincoln 3350 and enjoy it. I have permission from the wife to buy what it takes. With that said I’m trying to pace myself. This month alone I bought a Tig welder, Argon ...

Aaron, Sounds like a good approach. You are actual safer than me. I only wear a seatbelt when my wife drives[emoji3] I think I noticed you live up in Pacific Northwest. Have traveled through the Southwest but someday I have to see Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Curious to see the r...

Re: Learned this one from Jody

Thanks for posting a picture. It’s really amazing how much difference sharing a photo makes to a post.

I always remember that video also because I have some machines with castings and figured the technique might help.

Re: Removing zinc from hard to grind parts?

And not to be a safety nanny, but do remember that anything like that 30% vinegar is not quite like the stuff you get from the food store. You will probably want to wear goggles or other eye protection to keep from splashing the stuff in your eyes and you probably don't want to inhale lots of the f...

Re: 6-Gauge Wire for Welder Extension Cord?

Um, ok but for a small mathematical difference between your situation and the original poster. You are running 150' of 6 gauge and the original poster is wondering about running 25' of extension cord. You have a grand total of 125' difference in length. I'm not going to bother plugging the numbers i...

Re: Removing zinc from hard to grind parts?

Good choice trying vinegar first. If for some reason the strong vinegar is obnoxious to work with then try the 5% vinegar before giving up. The reason I mention this is because the 5% vinegar really works like a hero. There is really no actual need for stronger. Another tip is to keep the parts subm...

Re: 6-Gauge Wire for Welder Extension Cord?

Here is a voltage drop calculator. I played with it and if you got 8 gauge copper at 25' and the percentage of voltage drop was .62% According to a quick look it appears National Electric Code accepts up to a 5% voltage drop. I have heard a few welders swear that the commercial available welding ext...

Re: Removing zinc from hard to grind parts?

Why bother with dangerous muriatic acid. Go to store or hardware store and buy a gallon of white vinegar with a 5 or 6% acidity. For example the last gallon I bought was white vinegar for canning and pickling. One gallon was under $5 at hardware store. Soak your coated parts in vinager for a day or ...

Re: CROOKED BEADS AND WHY CAN'T I SEE ANYTHING ?

Thankyou all for your replies. I've realised it is better for beginners to start on thick metal, I was practicing on 3mm 1/8th sheet because most of my steel boat is such but I grabbed a big chunk of 4 inch X 4 inch by 6 inch and beaded it to death suddenly I'm producing edible beads and not in con...

Don’t use that until you talk with an electrician. It does not look correct to me but I’m not willing to take responsibility for helping over internet.
