26 is my go to , unless making a weld where I need all the room I can get , 26 torch walks so smoothly and is nice and heavy and stable . One thing I found is with smaller torches the lead always seems to way it down , with the 26 i dont feel that.

Re: New here. What welder to buy. ?
I dont nor.ally promote things unless I've tried them , depending on what your wanting to do , if just dc , get a power arc 300 Everlast. It'll weld any thickness of material you'd ever want , and runs 6010 better then the Miller inverters , hands down i could do xray welds with it stick / dc tig , ...

Re: 5g uphill root
You have to learn to read the keyhole when welding pipe . If its not opening up then both walls aren't breaking down you maybe able to adjust arc length to open it up minimally in a pinch . If your key hole is opening up ti much then you need stab the rod in the bevel and reduce amperage. Weldiding ...

Re: Tig cup / gas lense kit questions
You can get bigger tungsten into a number 9. I’ve gotten parts to use 1/8 before. Usually I use 3/32 in my 9. I think there rated for 125 amp. Okay awesome , thanks for the info . I'm just going to take my torches up to my LWS and maybe see if I cant find an assortment of stuff . Sent from my SM-G9...

Re: Tig cup / gas lense kit questions
FWIW, some users including myself have had issues with abnormal gas coverage with cheap gas lens collet bodies recently (you can look up previous posts if you'd like). What cup size were you looking for and for what TIG torch ? I'm not sure to be honest , I have a smaller 9 series flex torch with a...

Tig cup / gas lense kit questions
Hello , I've been practicing tig welding for a while now . Working on my combo pipe cert at the moment. I'm on a job where we are doing alot of 2 and 3 inch sch 40 . I only have a size 7 and 8 for my tig torch currently and they bind up when trying to walk the root in . Because they dont fit inside ...

Beveling sch. 80 6 inch
So I've been practicing my pupe welding for some time . I picked up some sch 80 6 inch and im just trying to figure out what is the easiest way to bevel this stuff . I beveled 1 coupon out by hand . And it took an hour , and i would consider myself a somewhat experienced pipe Beveler lol . Is there ...

Re: Struggling on 7018 vertical up?!
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think rod ovens are totally overrated. I recently got passed the bend tests for AWS d1.1 and I used an old unsealed can of excalibur that has been riding around in the bottom of a toolbox. I'd say tons of practice is your best bet, and if you can find somebody skill...

Hey Guys, Got a line on a 1946 Lincoln SA-200 I'll probably pick up this month. It's sole purpose will be for general farm repair and non-critical fabrication. If anyone has ...

Re: First tig machine for pipe welding
If your learning to pipe weld . You do not need high frequency. And pretty much all welding done in the field will be done with lift arc . It's a an entirely different animal to weld pipe with a foot pedal. The max stars are great machines . And the high frequency machines can be ran in lift arc tig...

Welding stand
Some may remember my recent post , asking about welders to practice pipe welding on . Well I ended up in the end pulling the trigger on a Everlast powerarc 300 . It should be in next week some time . I talked with someone I met and they had nothing but great things to say about it . And told me they...

Re: Clarifications pipe welding
It looks pretty concistant. That’s good. From the pictures I would suggest checking those low spots at the toe of the welds to make sure your not below flush. Test day welds can be nerve wracking but those small details like no undercut or not just below flush but even excessive reinforcement can g...

I know it's a little late but I guess I'll ask , did you by any chance spark test the housing to be sure its cast iron and not cast steel ?

Re: 308L on cast iron to steel....it worked?
So should I cut it out and try ni55 again? Its very strong but I will cut it out if necessary. Theres two sides, and I believe I was welding at a better angle on the side that held. Should I order some 309L to be on the safe side? Already ordered some 1/8" ni55, I believe that the gap is a tad...

Re: 308L on cast iron to steel....it worked?
Welding a cast iron differential housing from a car, and I had to make a special steel mount for it. The mount has to be welded onto it, and no matter what I tried the Ni55 rod would break under stress (I would pound the mount with a 5lb sledge and the weld would break clean in half) I had some 308...

Re: Need help selecting a welder for my needs!
I have also considered the Everlast 210stl Or Everlast 300st They both have good duty cycles for the types of metal I plan to use them for. And they have a claim to fame on the arc quality and cellulose ability for them . I did watch a review of one of the power arc 200s. And it did seem to run 1/8t...
