Re: Building New Shop looking for ideas
BugHunter - Thank you very much, these are awesome tips/suggestions. Fortunately my laid out spot is a solid one and away from trees with fairly easy place to run my dry well for the drain inside. There are quite a few of your suggestions I'll be incorporating. I am not going to make mistake of not ...

Re: Building New Shop looking for ideas
Coldman - can you post pic or describe in more detail? I'm sketching out storage above the carved out 12x12 closed off room since i will have another 4 feet space above it to the building ceiling for storage and obviously lot of longer steel sticks can/will go up there. Thank you everyone already fo...

Building New Shop looking for ideas
We moved the end of last year and now I get chance to build from scratch. I'm looking at 40x40 building with 2 large 12x12 doors on the gable end. It will store a little bit of our farm equipment but mostly be anything I want it to be. Basically any/all projects (repairs, weld fab, auto, man cave, e...

Re: Home Shop Ventilation
@Poland308 = what would you recommend for a purely recreational/hobby guy like me. We run a farm so its basic/easy fabrication and repair along with just some stuff for fun (obviously for past year lots and lots of just practice plates, etc.). I just have simple portable radiant heat on in winter us...

Re: Home Shop Ventilation
Thanks for the photo and comment JayWal! I probably could figure out the duct work and I like the fact you're not losing your heat. Your shop is big enough and with higher ceilings so I could see how that's a big concern where you are located. Maybe someone can comment on here = can a simple shop fi...

Re: Home Shop Ventilation
Thanks BugHunter! I guess that's part of the reason I posted it --> getting opinions of people more experienced than me on if I should be concerned or not. 99% of time I'm running solid wire mig and/or basic steel and aluminum TIG. With long winters here in Montana I can definitely spend all day in ...

Home Shop Ventilation
Hey All - I used Jody and his videos to teach myself how to Stick, Mig, and Tig weld and have had a lot of fun doing it. It was a goal at first just to fix our farm equipment, corrals, etc. but it turned into welding whatever I could come up with (furniture, tools, etc.). Anyway, I have small shop t...

Portable Horse Corral
I team rope for fun and I've been wanting to put together a portable corral we can take with us when we go to events or even just want to go camping. Thought I'd post if anyone out there has thought of making something similar. They turned out ok and the 6 panels are only about 150lbs so they'll rid...

Drill Press question
I'm still a newbie here, but I think I'm ready to breakdown and buy a drill press. The more work I play around with the more frustrated I get simply using a hand drill. My question is what are people's recommendations for a reasonably priced bench top drill press. I'd prefer to stay within a budget,...

Re: Portable band saw cutting
Thanks for the replies everyone. Antorcha and Ironshepherdforge = those are both really good points. I do find myself in a hurry and its only saw I have to I need to slow down. I find myself needing a lamp for more and more things...guess that's old age kicking in. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Re: Where to buy steel
Hey WelderDan, FWIW I gave this guys kits a try (website below) as I thot it was funny he was using the priority box shipping. Anyway I ordered the 12 cubes of different gauge thickness for $55. It was a steal in my opinion vs. what I know scrap/remnants cost at my local steel yard. These are plasma...

Re: Portable band saw cutting
Quick follow up on this, I was just messing around yesterday and just welded two upright 1x1 square tubing on piece of angle. I made the height to catch the forward handle and then on left side I angled the square tubing to line up with the back of the saw. The back of the handle (behind trigger) ba...

Table Casters
Week 3 as a beginner and finally starting some projects. I know I've got long way to to with practice, but I was desperate to get table done as was sick of working on the floor. I pieced together/borrowed from photos online and was able to pick up a reasonable remnant 3/8" top. I wanted the tab...

Re: Quick attach haybale spear
Super cool project = just curious if anyone has made a rear spear for the three point. I've been borrowing neighbors but I dont like the fork configuration as its tough to get angles right to prevent a bale from slipping off as you bounce over our fields.

Portable band saw cutting
Hey all I'm a total beginner but am having a lot of fun messing around with projects and learning the basics. These forums have helped a lot and this is my first time posting/asking a question. There was a huge sale at our local farm/ranch store here and I was able to get a Dewalt cordless bandsaw f...
