Re: cutting tungsten
I've never had a dip cause enough contamination to want to cut or break off a tungsten yet. I have had filler contaminate a tungsten that badly though. I usually grind the contamination from the tungsten with a bench grinder. Sure it takes time, but it saves a lot of tungsten. As a hobbyist that sav...

Re: Hobart Spool Runner 100 problem
Good find. I'll have to keep an eye on mine. Mine is still welding fine, but I don't use it as often because I bought an acdc tig. The spool gun really works well on fillet weldsand is way faster than tig.

Re: aluminum welding
A lot of wire feed systems won't feed aluminum wire fast enough to get into the spray transfer needed to weld aluminum. Around twice the speed for welding steel is needed. That may be your biggest hold back on the equipment you have. To compare, I use a newer Hobart 190 for mig and have a spool gun ...

Re: Titanium flux 125 troubleshooting
I have one of those welders. Mine works fine. Not quite clear on your issue. Does the wire just curl when it's being fed and not arc like its supposed to?

Re: Weldpro MIG210 LCD or Klutch MP251Si LCD for MIG Anyone?
Looking to upgrade on my old Hobart 180 MIG with something with LED / LCD with lot of adjustability for around $1000. I like to be able to adjust Inductance, Torch Trigger 2T 4T, Spot Time, Pre & Post Gas, Run In WFS. I looked though many welders in this price range the only two that have fine ...

Re: Newbie - what am I doing wrong (aluminum tig)
Your choice of material is not the problem. Some pics of your settings, the welder connections and gas type would be helpful. I started tig welding on 5052 aluminum and got quite different results.

Re: Aluminum questions
I received my first tig welder last month and quickly put it to use welding on a jon boat project. I've had aluminum balls contaminate my tungsten close to an inch up from the sharpened end. I broke my tungsten off only once and the result way a splintered mess that took a lot of grinding to fix. So...

Re: My biggest fear as a newbie
I received my first tig welder just yesterday and got the chance today to run my first beads this afternoon. I got the first welder in your original post, the Weldpro Tig ACDC200GD. My main reason for getting a tig welder is to weld aluminum, jon boats specifically. I'm just a hobbyist and have ran ...

Re: What’s best way to cut expanded metal?
Depends in the dimensions of what you'll be needing and the direction of the diamond pattern (if using specifically for traction), but a thin kerf cutting wheel can leave the diamond intact on both sides of the cut when following the angle of the expansion. Makes it much nicer to handle and less gri...

. The newer inverter machines show promise, but no one knows their longevity. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk I think it's far-fetched to say that 'no one' knows their longevity. And they're not really all that "new" to the scene anymore. Its not like the first inverter ever came out...

Re: Which welder, 120v MIG?
True, you don't need a 220v machine to do sheet metal. They're just more robust to work with thicker material if you would ever choose to. A lot of us do. I'm a hobbyist that likes to fix autos, boats and build tools. A 110v may be all you need. I would still include Hobart in your list as they have...

Re: Which welder, 120v MIG?
I was looking at the same welders earlier this year and included Hobart in my list. Went with a Hobart 190 (220v) mainly because of versatility, availability, warranty and their wire feed assembly (plus I got a really good price on one new). No complaints on its ability to do whatever I've asked of ...

Re: Flux core trouble shooting
Hopefully the wire was E71T-GS and not ER70S6. The latter wouldn't produce any flux and would give "god awful" welds without gas for sure. I haven't tried the KT Industries wire myself, neither self shielded or gas shielded. I have the Titanium flux 125 and have used Hobart and Lincoln wir...

Re: My first welding attempt.
Yes, upgrade the wire to Hobart's E71T-11. It will help a lot. The GS wire won't weld to a previous weld. The hobart wire is multi-pass wire. Slow down the wire feed also. My first welder was the same one. 3 was about as fast as mine could handle. It slows the process down and will get decent penetr...

Re: Dumpster welder
Got my hose issue remedied so had to see how it welds for me. Runs very hot from what I'm used to. Started at the front on the right and progressed left and back. This hobart will change things a lot for me. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200513/737031badc604b80d2c0582d8bf3c6b3.jpg Sent from my ...

Re: Dumpster welder
Much better, but still very cold/tall/ropey. Do you have the machine max'd out? Nothing wrong with those welds on 22ga. Perhaps more voltage if it doesn't go too far on the step. Either way, now that you've wet your beak in the great pond that is welding, you will want a better, bigger machine. :) ...

Re: Dumpster welder
Built a cart today for my welder to move easily around the garage. "Dumpster" is a fitting name for this machine. At times it welds great, but about 50% or more of the time it spits, sputters or just makes the wire glow. May just be a ground issue. The ground clamp is very sub-par. If it d...

Re: Dumpster welder
Today's tech is definitely better than just 10 years ago too. I would rather know the voltage and wire speed than some ambiguous letter and number. Its why I'm still interested in the titanium series from HF. Might be good enough for my needs. Still like the Hobart line though. Choice to make Sent f...

Re: Dumpster welder
My main reluctance to purchase a higher dollar inverter setup is from my experience with power amplifiers. The toroid amps are like the transformer welders. They last a long time and can be repaired. The inverters are like the switching amps and when you have problems with them replacement parts are...

Nice! Those old Fender "P's" had some good tone. Never owned one myself, but had a few friends that did. Smooth and rich tone.
