HTP Pro Tig 220 vs Everlast I-mig 253DPI on aluminum pulse

Does anyone have experience with these 2 machines on .090 aluminum? I see a lot of good things about the HTP but they aren’t in stock anywhere and I have an Everlast TIG welder and love it. Just wondering if one does something better then the other. I primarily weld on .090” aluminum on boats. I’m j...

Pulse mig on .090 aluminum

So I make some small light bar housings for boats and do a lot of boat work. I currently TIG the light bar housings due to the size of them and heat. Roughly a 3” side box with an end cap on each end that’s welded on and small brackets inside, not the problem. But the side plates involve about 9” of...

Barn door joint question

I am making up 2 doors for a barn, gonna be hinged on one side and swing open like a normal set of doors. Anyway I have a design but just wondering if I should be chamfering the edges of the tubing before welding. Or will a butt weld be strong enough? 2”x2” 1/4 and 3/16 aluminum. Was going to spoil ...

Plasma cutting table build questions

Building my first plasma table. I cut a lot of aluminum sheets down to work on boats. I have been just putting sheets on saw horses and cutting them in the driveway but want to contain the mess and make setup easier. So I am gonna do a 5x3 frame. Slats level with the top so I can hang a full size sh...

Re: Plasma cutter air drier

Man that’s a big setup there. Maybe I will just bite the bullet and go with with Hypertherm recommends for it. Anyone have any experience with that one?

Plasma cutter air drier

What is everyone using for an air drier for your plasma cutter? I have seen the Hypertherm one but man that’s pricey at just over 200$. Just wanna see if there’s some alternatives that work well?

Table top pulled, needs replaced.

So I screwed up making my welding bench last year, 1/8 wall tubing and 3/16” top, about 4’ square. Well problem is I didn’t pay attention when welding the frame to the top and it pulled the edges down so the tops not flat. I’ve finally had enough of the top not flat. So is my best bet to cut the wel...

Re: Plasma cutter for aluminum

More or less, they are all the same. How they "rate themselves" in their technical literature differs. If you compare those figures, nuances will surface. But it is my experience with many machines, 45 amp-rated is pretty much equal as long as you are dealing with reputable brands. The ch...

Re: Plasma cutter for aluminum

Less than 60 amps. But a 60 amp will do quite nicely if that's your next "step" from where you are now. But I think I use closer to 40-45 amps for that material on mine. I’ve seen that all machines aren’t created equal as far as amperage and their capabilities, is that correct? Like a 45 ...

Re: Plasma cutter for aluminum

I'm a fan of HTP as you can tell by my sig, and they have a good 55A plasma cutter. Consumables are inexpensive as well. How do you like it on aluminum? I really want to limit the amount of cleanup after the cut. Ive seen some leave a fairly porous cut which would mean a lot of grinding. I’m sure t...

Plasma cutter for aluminum

I am in need of a new bigger plasma cutter. My current setup is a cut master 38, 30amps. Cutting .090 aluminum it’s awesome. 1/8 or more and it makes very rough cuts. I was interested in the Everlast 62 (out of stock, Hypertherm 45xp (out of stock everywhere) and then started wondering what the capa...

Thanks guys. After posting and looking at the welds I was thinking too I need to make my dabs closer together, I’ll do some more tomorrow and see what happens.

Looking for some more criticism

So I am doing an infinity cube I got from weld metals online. The butt welds seam to be tricky to me for some reason. The outside corners I haven’t really done much yet. The fillets aren’t a problem for me. My problem with the butt joints is the puddle seems to wonder behind me as I go. I have playe...

Re: Help me minimize warpage.

Tack it all together and clamp it down to a bench prior to welding out. Skip weld and back stepping will minimise warping. Blow compressed air over it between skips to cool it. Skip weld and back stepping? And good idea on the compressed air! Never thought of that! Would clamping it down with thick...

Re: Help me minimize warpage.

I will be fabricating the piece that I circled. The side boxes I am removing are what is tieing the sides to the bottom. Once removed that support needs to be replaced so I am going to fabricate those circled side braces. The building of those braces will be welded. Then the complete brace will be r...

Re: Help me minimize warpage.

I am actually going to be creating those vertical pieces and riveting them to the hull so it looks original. I don't have access to a break so I will be building them out of multiple pieces.

Help me minimize warpage.

So I am working on a buddies boat, wants to remove the side boxes to open the floor but in his boat they are the side supports to the floor. I am going to remove the boxes and make matching side braces to match all the other ribs. Aluminum obviously, either .090 or 1/8, gotta measure and see what th...

Re: Spool gun settings

I also just had a thought, I wonder how accurate the wfs is on the spool gun so I measured it. Now its not 100% because it starts slow till it arcs then speeds up but i measured 320ipm where the machine was 400! So I was WAY low and the sticking of the spool. VERY frustrating issued but I feel WAY ...

Re: Spool gun settings

So I had my wife video the machine while welding. Amps would bounce around from 92-48amps and that was with a very steady pass, no big variations on my part. So I took the spool off of the gun and to my surprise I couldn't get it off! It was stuck to the rubber that give it the friction so it doesnt...
