Re: Surge or running watts?

Luckily the Genny I have been looking at is of the latest tech. Sine wave, low thd, etc. https://a-ipower.com/product/sua15000ec-portable-generator/ Wow, that's a beast! I wonder what it weighs. 24hp OHV Twin Cylinder Engine / 85 db at 23 feet. Its not going to be pleasant to be around that machine...

Re: Surge or running watts?

I think you need to worry about a few more factors than running watts. The welder you mentioned is an inverter welder. It is not likely to react well if the power from the generator is not clean (i.e., if the THD is above 5%, if the voltage regulation isn't tight and if the AC output is something o...

Re: Surge or running watts?

Running. "Starting" is kinda useless as it's just a "100 millisecond" kind of rating. Thanks Oscar. Looks like I'll be spending a pretty penny. I have an eastwood mig250 I am looking into getting a gen for it. To run on 240v at 47 amps I will need a 12,000 watt gen. My question ...

Surge or running watts?

I have an eastwood mig250
I am looking into getting a gen for it. To run on 240v at 47 amps I will need a 12,000 watt gen. My question is do I need 12k starting or running watts? Thanks

Re: Has anyone tried Tomahawk Pro 210 welder?

Agree with BillE that they certainly look like Dinse. So probably either Dinse 25 or Dinse 35 which are the most common. Check the manual to see if it mentions it. Unfortunately, even if you buy the right overall size of Dinse, the lengths of the cam connector can vary so they still may not fit. I'...

Has anyone tried Tomahawk Pro 210 welder?

Hey all! So I purchased one of the Tomahawk Pro 210 DC tig welder a few months ago for my business and love it. Problem is it's a bit obscure from what I have seen. Has anyone bought one and found compatible TIG leads 25- or 50- foot? My next step is Airgas but I try and avoid them. They bought up a...

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

This is 19v 150ipm. Did 6 second test right before. Definitely right settings. Need to work on consistency. What the best way to cap off the very top of the leg? Seems like when I sit there, the pool drips?

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

Definitely possible. I gotta ask them if I can take it. If I practice on it, it ultimately goes back in the scrap bin. I'll let ya know what happens. Tried v up on a pipe today. Went so well I went live and slapped a bead on an actual part. My v up bead is actually thicker than my flat beads on the ...

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

Haha that's true. Makes things a lot easier when you have a few tons of scrap. They're hiring a new welder soon so I should get more time to refine my skill. Build build build. They think this stuff is magic and it happens like THAT.

Got a few in today. Definitely getting more comfortable with adjusting settings. Still not perfect but getting better. Fridays settings were perfect having a hard time mimicking for some reason.

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

Unfortunately didn't practice today. Will start back tomorrow. My main question about welding school is would the 20,000$ debt I accrue be worth it considering I already have 3 years mig welding steel and aluminum and tig welding stainless. A lot of torching oxygen/acetelyne and plasma.. Accrue tha...

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

Let’s be clear! An average mig welding job will get you 40grand average per year. At best. Higher end stick or tig work will get you more. A solid pipe fitter/ welder on a 2000 hr year will get you 80k. Specialize beyond that and it gets hard to pin down a dollar figure. Now, that said, the experie...

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

Oh I see. Never used one like that. I took the day off yesterday but I'm back. I'm thinking about going to Tulsa Welding School as the Jacksonville campus is an hour and a half away. There's also a community college in town but the cirriculum isn't as good. Then there's an 18 month program about 45m...

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

First try. Looks rough. I'll lower the voltage a little next time and play with the IPM keeping within the 150 to 160 range. That one was around 145 IPM (says 160).

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

Experimented with a whole bunch of voltage settings, but stayed within the 149-161 IPM WFS window. Voltage ranged from 18.8-20.5V. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1IY7DfuUm92LA7Xyobwzo0Lch4XV5QpJV I really ended up liking mid-150's IPM for WFS (153/157 IPM), and the voltage was crisp...

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

Thanks obviously I'll do it you know your stuff that's no doubt. Thanks for the tip. That looks like a nice V up bead. Im not sure if we're pulse or spray transfer. I've been trying to find out. So the wire is the main factor in that. Ah hah! The other welders don't prep their steel like I do (good ...

Re: Need help with vertical up SMAW

It seems like that top weld Saturday was the closest I've gotten so far. I just can't stop the sag. Slight slight bite on the sides... I'm looking forward to you giving it a go. I feel like I'm right there. The weld Saturday was 20.5v 180 IPM. Like I'm going one step forward then right back where I ...
