Clamping help please
Hi all - Can anyone recommend a good technique to keep parts square while TIG welding? I have been tacking, using various magnets and trying to distribute the heat evenly by stitching one side then the other an inch or so at a time. Is there a clamp that would help me or short of a fixture will the ...

Re: TungstenMate - which rotary tool have you succeeded with
Have you tried it with the standard collet setup rather than the keyless chuck? The keyless chuck is quite a bit longer as I recall. You are exactly right... I just test fit it with a mandrel right into the shaft. This was a hand-me-down and I will need to go find a standard collet, I don't think d...

TungstenMate - which rotary tool have you succeeded with?
A while back I bought a tungsten mate simplicity to use with an old Dremel 3000 I had laying around. https://www.tungstenmate.com/product/tungstenmate-simplicity/ Their website is clear if slightly annoying in not recommending specific rotary tools that are compatible. The threading on my Dremel is ...

Thanks I found this brand but very few resellers online. Harris has the larger guns but not the smallest. Ill call their US officd Monday.tweake wrote:plenty of mig torch brands around.

Looking for smaller MIG torch for auto work
Hi all my Everlast MTS251 came with a monster 36 MIG torch. I purchased many smaller TIG torches from CK worldwide instead of purchasing replacements from Everlast because they seemed higher quality at a fair price. I don’t believe CK sells MIG torches where would I look for a small 15 series or eve...

Re: Did I melt my Furick 3/32 collet with 185amps?
While I figure out the wedge melt i am trying to remind myself which parts go with the ceramic furick gas lens. I think I have sorted these correctly am I right? The other thing I cannot remember is which insulator circled in purple corresponds to which setup.

Did I melt my Furick 3/32 collet with 185amps?
Really not pushing crazy hard, nowhere near 100%. Longest weld maybe 30seconds at 185 on the straights of the gusset.
Does anything about a short tungsten and medium cap effect this? Also its a flex I forgot to mention. Ck17 flex.

Did I melt my Furick 3/32 collet with 185amps?
Hi everyone I know I'm pushing my CK 17 torch by running short duty at 185 amps but I thought the Furick 3/32 lens/collet would be okay. The collet looks pretty distorted. Is this just to be expected as a "consumable" or did I do something wrong maybe with installation or with the amperage...

Did i melt my 3/32 Furick collet?
I know I am pushing my 17 CK torch a little bit by running 185amps (not full duty cycle). However I am surprised to see the 3/32 Collett look like it took so much abuse. Am I pushing it way too hard or are these just consumable?

Re: Can you push aircooled torches?
Hmm maybe not looks like a quick connect on the gas. I would expect them to have an adapter that would accept the power pin, and have a quick connect gas fitting (Everlast uses 9mm size on all the machines I'm aware of). There is an adapter for a RH 5/8" gas fitting to work on a 9mm quick conn...

Re: Can you push aircooled torches?
I think this is what I need. 1/2in dinse is what the Everlast has and 3/8in-24 is the connector on the 17 Torch line. Bummer it has such a long gas line, I only need 1-2'

Well I got my 17 torch and cable (right) and then realized I totally forgot to think about the welder connection (left, from 26 torch). What do you all recommend?

Re: Tungsten sharperner for a hobbiest who wants the good st
I considered the ew but didn’t want to pay for the motor twice so I’m giving the base model Tungstenmate a try. Will post my results. Even if its not gods gift I believe repeatability is where it will let me dial in the rest of my technique.

Re: Porosity at start of weld
I'll try those settings thanks for the tip. I realized I may have gone a bit big on this cup, I don't really need massive stick out for my current project but somehow landed on this kit. I ordered a 8PRO cup from Furick which should let me run a little lower on the gas.

Porosity at start of weld
I am testing out the furick #10 glass cup and gas lens kit I got from Weldmonger. Using 20cfh and getting real nice welds. I do notice porosity tends to happen only at the beginning of a weld however. Never during or at the end. Would too much or too little pre flow cause this? I tried .1 and .2 sec...

Thanks for the opinion guys. I guess I should have said since I just bought the 17 I was thinking another torch which uses the same flexible line would be an economical approach for me. I know the 9 does.

Got my large torches set - now what about tiny ones?
I got into welding in the first place for auto restoration work. Lots of painfully thin and old sheet metal 12ga or more often 18ga. Lots of butt welded patches and plug welded replacement panels. Access and out of position always a concern. I upgraded to the Everlast 251si because I wanted to try b...

I have the small tank I can’t remember it’s cubic foot size but its height is very close to the length of the welder about 25 to 28 inches depending on where you take the measurement

Re: Low Welding cart for larger welders - buy or make
I moved from a small 120v mig to a Everlast 251si. Sold the cart I had the mig on and now have the everlast rolling on a dolly. Its actually very useful to have it low where it can roll under cars I am restoring (aka: dead storage) and under the workbench when im done. Every sqft of the garage coun...

Lol I know I'm trying to thread the needle here between spinning um by hand on my $30 HF bench grinder and spending a few hundo. I think there's some decent stuff between in the links I posted but looking for real world experience.
