Re: Is anyone using the INOX type grinders?
For those wondering what INOX means what I am meaning are angle grinders with variable speed selections. Advertised as INOX grinders.

Is anyone using the INOX type grinders?
Im not far off needing to get a bit more serious about my grinder setup and in the long run im probably going to get a few for different tasks but at first I’ve been wondering about whether I should spend the money and get one of the adjustable speed INOX ones. Just wanting to know what people think...

Re: How hot does your tig torch get?
You will love having a water cooled torch! Only issue I have is the cooler is loud! (Miller Coolmate 3).
What I found funny was I weld with a Miller Syncrowave 350LX which I got used and it was cheaper for me to buy a brand new cooler from Miller than it was to buy a second hand refurbished one.

How on earth do you Mig vertical up?
First and foremost I’m a TIG welder, but nature of my job I have to do a bunch of Mig as well. Most of the Mig welding I do I can move to make it easier to weld in a flat position but many a time I’ve felt I could save a lot of time welding out of position. Only problem is I can’t figure out vertica...

Re: Heavy Welder choice question?
I have used a PipePro 350 and 600 to do as you describe. Self contained generators capable of serious work, maybe not quite what you seek as you have power already sourced. The Dynasty 400 can also be a helluva Stick machine and does CA gouging. In all honesty it was looking at Sub Arc power source...

Heavy Welder choice question?
As far as heavy Tig goes I’m pretty much sorted. Only bigger machines I'm wanting to acquire in the future are Dynasty 400’s and 800’s. My question though is I want to leave my 350LX setup for Tig welding. I’m considering looking for something of equally high or higher amperage that I can set up for...

What do you want to do in your shop? Trust me if you plan on moving anything heavy on wheels you want a flat surface.

Welding in the Soviet Union. Anyone know about this?
We all hear about welding history and tech from the western world but not much about Eastern more secretive countries in history. Russia and historically the Soviet Union have always had access to a lot of Titanium. They also invented underwater welding. I was reading the other day about when they c...

No TIG was seen in either of those videos. The first example is a spool gun wire feed. The second is automated wire feed. Both Mig/Mag based processes. No TIG involved.

Old-Timey Videos
I’m a bit of a history buff when it comes to all things engineering. When relaxing I love to see what old time videos I can find on YouTube and other places online. I figure I can’t be the only one who likes these things so I’m going to share what I find with the forum. I will try and post videos wi...

Re: Oldest machines you have run?
I first learnt to weld on an old stick welder of unknown brand. I just remember it having a bunch of female plugs in the front and you just plugged into different ports for whatever amps you wanted. When I did my first welding certificate test for TIG, I did my carbon steel test on an old Lincoln Id...

There are welders on here who started out not long after wwll. I’d love to hear recollections of what some of the very old machines people have used. Whether that be when they were modern or recently

Re: 304 work hardening.
Stainless can be pretty malleable. That series stainless will work harden if allowed to get too hot while machining. What technique are you planning to use for forming? That will allow me to better answer your questions. Cutting with tin snips, cold forming, clamping, hammering, then welded, and ad...

Can anyone identify these welds on this Jet Engine
Was at an open day today and there was a 1940’s era De Havilland Goblin Jet Engine there on a stand. Heliarc (TIG) was perfected in 1941 by Northrup. De Havilland were British. You can see some welds that appear to be early Heliarc or Oxy Acetylene welds but what has me scratching my head are ones t...

Re: We need to liven up this forum
On a machinist page on Facebook the topic of large drill bits and drilling stainless steels came up. Someone made a comment saying “who ever is going to have to drill a 2” hole into 316 stainless?”. Technically he was right. Most people would never need to do that. But in my job that’s not an uncomm...

Newbie here. Haven’t been a member long. Looks like a great forum with lots to read. I’m a member over on Weldingweb and also on various machinist forums. Someone mentioned getting pro’s to come into forums. Plenty do. Forums aren’t just for learning. In my case I come to forums to socialise. To tal...
