welding stamped steel.

First question is what makes it different from "normal" steel and why is it stamped? Second question is can this be welded and if so to normal steel?

Re: Getting started in MIG welding - gas or no gas?

I was kinda curious on the paintball C02 tanks, because I have a gun and two tanks (which I haven't used in a long time). Is anything special required to set this up over a normal tank?

I agree with this, I welded really dirty metal and my garage was filled with flumes to the point of being light headed. Next day I decided I'd clean it and barely any smoke.

Re: Getting started in MIG welding - gas or no gas?

Great - thanks much. Looks like you're just ahead of me in terms of getting started. Thanks for providing the photo examples. I'm thinking the Hobart 140 is for me - and I may spring for the gas bottle as well, based on what these other guys are saying about how clean the weld will be when using ga...

Re: Getting started in MIG welding - gas or no gas?

Go look at the post I started, I recently bought a hobart 140 and I like it for what its doing so far. As far as I can tell flux core is more fitted for 110v machines because it will penetrate more. Gas would be a good idea for thin metal (body work) but for a go kart frame flux core should work and...

Re: Looking into getting a welder.

IT LOOKS GOOD FOR A FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE, TRY PLAYING WITH THE WIRE SPEED A LITTLE, UP OR DOWN. ALSO TRY TO WELD ON A FLAT POSITION IT WILL BE A BETTER LOOKING WELD. AND WHEN YOU DO THIS TRY SOMETHING LIKE A ZIG-ZAG ABOUT 1/4 IN. APART, AND STAY TWICE AS LONG ON THE BOTTOM PUT IT THIS WAY IN FLAT ...

Re: Looking into getting a welder.

That welder should be fine for what your doing. I forgot exactly how to calculate duty cycles, but if you had a 100% duty cycle it would never shut off. at 80% you would have 80% weld time and 20% wait time. So a 20% would have 20% weld time and 80% wait time. Most welders have an internal thermome...

Re: Looking into getting a welder.

Well the problem I'm having is I'm really short on funds so I'm kinda limited on what I can get. First thing I was looking at was a tig welder but though prices are way out of my price range, especially for just beginning. I really have no clue what I'm looking for, but I know I shouldn't go cheap. ...
