Re: Rare Earth Tungsten

Crappy is crappy. We all know that. Apples to apples I buy lanthenated, same manufacturer, for less money than Thoriated. My sales guy tells me it's the, MUST BE NEW SO IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE, deal. Granted when it first came out, Lanthenated was very pricey. Run Thoriated, I don't care. Lanthenated is...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

Since you are in a shop environment and not in the field, ( which I did and, OVER IT) try the regular collet body with a number 5 cup. Two bottles, 1 argon, 1 helium. A flow meter attached to the argon bottle. On the exit side of the flow meter attach a Y valve. Run your line to your machine from 1 ...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

No worries mate. I registered her to possibly help some new enthusiastic welders and to hopefully come across some interesting factoids and brain food. So........ Where and what is this discussion that got you so fired up? I would love to join or at least take a gander at! Cheers. P.S. The ballon gr...

Re: Rare Earth Tungsten

Lanthanated is not expensive. Check out eBay. $10-$14 per pack for 1/16. Thorium is actually higher for good quality. And breathing in fine thorium dust is very bad health wise. Read about. Lanthananted out performs as long as it's not over loaded with amps. READ THE LINK.

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

Balloon grade Helium works great and is not expensive. Don't waste your money on the more expensive stuff.

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

My reply was welding Aluminum 101. Not necessarily aimed at Stale's question. Just thought I would throw some info out. Helium is not that expensive and buying a dedicated Argon/Helium mix bottle is not needed. Just easier. And nobody welds Aluminum wih a diffused lens. Everybody that welds for a li...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

I skimmed through your original post and some of the responses. Aluminum is difficult to learn but once you get some critical parts together, it welds like a dream and is very fun. Here are some set up numbers for your machine and process for weld preparation. Machine Set up: these are basic paramet...

Re: Rare Earth Tungsten

Here is a PDF that explains it all. http://www.diamondground.com/TungstenGuidebook2011.pdf I personally use 1.5% Lanthenated. Adjusting your Tungsten grind is important as well. I have three boxes of Thoriated Tungsten and will not touch the stuff. I also use a Dynasty 200 and Dynasty 350. The non i...

Re: Stainless Steel weld grey

With stainless you want as much gas coverage as possible. You want to use the largest cup exit diameter that you can still weld the part comfortably. 99% of the stainless welding I do I use a champagne cup flowing anywhere from 35-50 cfm. There are many factors the contribute to getting a consistent...
