Re: small print sucks
Years ago, I bought the (supposedly the best) screwdriver set from Sears, chipped off the corner of one of the common ones. Well, I ground it square & kept using it. Next time at the mall I took it with me back to Sears, & they said sorry, if I had brought it back without 'fixing' it, then, ...

Re: Why does the Puddle blow out while TIG welding?
One time I was having fits with the weld continually blowing out, it was frustrating. I was (trying to) weld some (about) 3/16" wire to some (about) 1/4" sq rod. Turns out, the 1/4 rod was 'key-way' stock. I dont know what was in it, and it was HARD. And for all practical purposes, unwelda...

I am probably going to really catch it for this, but I tig welded up a flaw in the (welded) seam on a very old 1 gallon or so pancake propane bottle, and after several years, me, the patio, the bbq, well, we're still here. Years ago, I welded 2 spin-on oil filter housings from Cat 235 excavator engi...

Re: Lathes and Mills
Didnt realize theres a mill & lathe thread here. I bought a Rusnok 18" mill about 30 years ago at a yard sale, sold as a heavy duty drill press. It is WWII surplus from off some navy ship. It is both a vertical & horizontal mill, the horiz part does not have a motor, (it would be in the...

Re: How do you adjust your welding amperage?
I generally leave machine set to the 'high' side, if I'm gonna weld thin stuff, I'll turn down the current to match. I have a TA 185, & it seems to end up at about 30 amps above optimum, till I make a big readjustment. My machine displays the actual current flow for a few seconds after 'foot off...

I bought one for 4 1/2" grinder at -> yes, Big Lots. It Works very well & is lasting a long time (for as much as I use it).
It was made in Thailand of all places, has the threaded mount & cost $1.49. I went & got another one, dont know when I'll ever use it.

I was stationed in Thailand (late 1960's) & knew a local whose father owned a (gold & silver) jewellry shop. I only saw them working silver, very interesting. Hammered down bars of silver till they could pull it through a 'die', an old metal file with a graduated series of square cut holes t...

I have a plastic 'tool' type box, the big 'uns go in the bottom, medium(?) ones go in the tray, box has a tray in the lid, small ones go there. This is for the odd bits I have! Good question. I would also ask about speed & volts settings. Would you 'aim' the wire more towards the thick part? I have managed the same thing, thick to thin, but just 'managed' to. So I too will be waiting for answers. Most folks here know more than me about welding, I 'can' weld, but I'm not...

Last friday I picked up a 'Millwaukee' band-saw off craigslist. I cannot believe how GOOD these things are! I wish I had bought one 30 yrs ago! My bro has one but I never tried it out till a few weeks ago & was totally sold, & started looking for one. Anyway, , , -corn-

I built a cart for my 180 dual mig machine that I havent seen one similar to. It's big (8") wheels are mounted at the center of the frame that the welder sits in. Not shown is a frame that bolts in to raise the welder (and slightly tilt it), when I roll it around outside on uneven ground (so I ...

I was around (operating and oiling) heavy equipment for 40 years, 1st 25 running it. I never really liked running the stuff, repetitive and/or hard on the back. About 15 years ago, got into 'grade checking', moving to, and staying on the ground was the best thing I ever did. If you are half-way good...

The cart: cart02.jpg This is the cart I made for my wire-feeder, a '180 Dual' mig. I have cracks in the slab and cracks in the driveway and wanted a stable cart. The big wheels are wider than the welder and are about centered for weight. The casters dont carry much weighr unless the big wheels get '...

A Table & a Tumbril!
This is what I came up with for a welding table and a cart for my new welder: table.jpg I've built a small welding table, its 32" wide x 16" deep x 30" high. I dont need a large table, If I did, I'd be screwed, 'cause I dont have the room anyway. Its all bolted together, as I wanted s...
