welcome, i dont think any of the clamps or fixtures in that video are magnetic i believe they are all held in place by all those holes showing in the table top.

when you say cored wire i hope you are talking about innershield that is strictly gassless and the size being 1.2 all of my experiance is with either 5/64 dia or 0.45. HI i have an old miller motor generator welder very much like that, those type of weders are usally great stick welders because of the motor drive, they have great basement power meaning that you can run 1/8 inch 7018 nice and hot and hold the arc really tight. without having the transformer cut out...

i have been in a similar fix, and i used a carbide spade bit that is made for drilling ceramic or glass . it is a funny looking bit that is just a shaped piece of carbide brazed to a drill shank: go slow and use cutting oil you should be alright. retapping the hole may be a little tricky too just re...

also if your first strike doesnt go very well and leaves the flux on the end of the rod a little irregular gently break the flux away with your other gloved hand being carefull to just expose the very tip. this should help with your next attempt, good news if you can strike standard 7018 with a regu...
